you can by a modified motor at stores but its pretty hard to find the right one, you can get them ofline at www.towerhobbies.com (http://www.towerhobbies.com) thats where i buy my stuff and its alot cheaper and easier.some electronic speed control can only handle surtent turn of motors example: if you get the novak rooster it can handle 15turn and above (the lower the turn the faster the moter) so you would have to get a 15 turn motor or a 16turn motor and 17turn and so on and so on. and some of the electronic speed control can go in reverse and forward and some can only go forward

An Electronic Speed control recieves the throttle signal from the reciever, and swiches the motor on and off very quickly to regulate the speed of the car. The 18 turn motor you were talking about is a Modified motor. The turns refer to how many times the wire is wrapped. The less turns, the faster the car will be, but a low turn motor would draw more power, so you get a shorter runtime. Your brother should start with a "Stock" motor, its a 27 turn motor, and it has enough speed to keep you happy, and has long runtimes to boot. Then you could move ato a Mod Motor.
