View Full Version : Rear stub axle eating my wheels!

My rear stub axle pins are eating the inside hub of my wheels. After a while(a week or two), my axle's just turn freely in the wheelhub. Only happens on one side. What could it be? Is there a hop up to the stub axles so I can use a more durable axle/wheel combo? My car uses Associated type wheels and axels.

Dude, I HATE that! It's not a problem with the axles, pins, or wheels. It's a problem with the nut not being tight enough. Either 1) you don't tighten it down enough in the first place or 2) your nut on the axle is worn out and backs off while you drive (that's my bet). I suggest you get new locknuts for both axles and use them. Throw the old nuts away.

I tighten them pretty good so I'll try and get new nuts. It's the cheaper way to go, thanks.

Did it work or what?

Another thing to look for would be checking the length of your axle pin. If it's too short, it could be over-torqueing the inside of the hub, stripping it.

I had a similar problem when I installed CVD supplied axle pins...they were a good 1/8 in. shorter than Losi's and stripped the hub. They were replaced with longer ones and that took care of the problem.

My ultima takes B3 wheels and I got black B2 wheels. The hubs are slightly different so it might have been that. I am getting new wheels soon.
