They are both great. But one is off road and the other is on-road. It all depends on what you plan to do more. There is alot of parts out for both of those rc's, they are both easy to maintain and learn on. But if you go off road...maybe you should look into an rc10GT2. It's alittle more money but it's worth it. Parts are easier to get. And it's much stonger IMO. Look into it.

out of them i would get the offroad one so you can use it anywhere...and not just be restricted to flat ground!

first and foremost,...WELCOME!!
Lets ask ourselves a few questions, before you decide. Your LHS, do they carry duratrax? will you be ordering parts from online, or at the hobby shop? do they carry parts in stock?
If you have patience, unlike me, it wont matter on what you buy, but LIKE me, i break stuff, i want parts NOW! 15 minutes later, i'm at my LHS, and i grab parts. If not, i order :( .
First R/C? follow those instructions !!!!!First nitro r/c? follow those instructions on break-in!!!!
Sounds like the way to go is off-road, seeing your surroundings. Despite what you may read, most trucks are ok for reliability, ect. It is very dependant of your driving/playing habits. If you like to do the W.O.T., drive it like you stole it! technique, you may want to step up to something a bit "tougher", although they all have their limits, jsut some are higher than others.
If you cater to cruising around, mild insanity, then the duratrax truck and others like it will be fine. Remember, its your $$$$, we can only offer advise.
Good luck in all your choices!

All i can say is this. Go with a good top well known brand like Traxxas, Tamiya, HPI, or anything other then Duratrax, don't get me wrong, i do have a Duratrax charger but for a RTR Car/Truck or kit if so, i would just go with a good well known and mainly talked about brand like the ones i mentioned above, also, you want something that will have lot of support incase you wanna upgrade parts and such, and there just isn't really much to choose from from Duratrax or any other aftermarket company out there that makes Hop Up's for Duratrax cars & trucks, so thats another good thing to keep in mind and think of before you make your choice.

my first cars were from Traxxas, the E-maxx and 4-Tec. the 4-tec has never been broken, and i drive like i stole it. The E-maxx has had a few busted parts but has held up great. had them both for about 2-3 years. drive them almost every other day.
