What te heck are they and do I have to go out and buy some for a motor like a p2k to be able to run it? Or do they come whith it?

You need two of them. You put each of them over you earlobes and they help you drive better. Hope this helps...

you don't need any of them! if you put one on it will break beter. Two of them will give even beter braking. Just don't put them on if you have a reversable esc

I say follow your ESC manufacturer's instructions exactly, which usually means installing a schottky diode. They know what's best (and required) for the best operation. Why would you not follow their reccomendations?

The diodes are used for smoother constant braking power . They can only be used in one direction of polarity, and cannot be used with a reversing E.S.C.

The Shottky Diodes will help to add some brake on an ESC such as the Cyclone, but if you are running a stock motor, this is not usually needed since the stock motors tend to have enough brake on their own.

If you are going to use the shottky diode included, use only one of them and make sure that you put the diode on correctly to the terminals. If it is hooked up backwards, it will blow and be useless as soon as you hit the gas!

Schottky Diode: (pronounced Shot-Key) A special type of high-speed diode that has a very low forward-voltage drop. This means it offers very little resistance to the flow of current in one direction. The average Schottky diode forward-voltage drop is typically 0.30 to 0.45 volts under full load.
The Schottky diode works in conjunction with the speed control during partial throttle to carry recirculating current back from the motor during the 'off-time' of switching. External Schottky diodes take the place of internal ones on the Cyclone and Tempest, and reduce brake-fade that results from heat being transferred from the diode to the brake transistors. Schottky diodes are most efficient when located as close to the motor as possible, and will help reduce radio noise by limiting the distance large current spikes can travel. Using external schottky diodes on other forward-only speed controls like the Racer EX, Duster, Duster II, and Explorer can also help improve performance. Use of more than one external Schottky can further increase performance from a particular speed control and motor combination. - Directly from Novak.

Does Novak give an ESC/ Motor combination that the double Shottky setup would be avantageous?

I have run with and without the diode on the Cyclone and Cyclone TC and have noticed no difference in performance and/or braking.

I understand in the technical sense what the diode does for the unit, but what is the real performance increase?
