I know you guys probably get this all the time, but I was looking through the other threads and didn't really find a good answer to my question so here goes...

I have been out of 10th scale racing for about 4 years now and even then I was only doing off-road trucks. The past few years I have been racing 18 and 24 scales but now I am looking to get back into 10th, more specifically 10th 4wd on-road.

Since I have been out of the loop on these cars since I dont read up on them anymore bc I was involved with the mini cars, whats a good car to start with that is going to be competitive enough for me to be happy with it. I havent had a chance to get up to the track yet where they are running these to see what those guys are using, but for now I am just trying to price some stuff out to see if it is even feasable for me to get involved in them. I know I have heard goos stuff about the tc4 and rc4 and didn't know if those are good enough to race, or maybe something even a little cheaper. I am looking to stay away from the really high end stuff though as I don't have a whole lot of money and I am not good enough to justify spending that much, haha.

I got a decent charger though and controllers. So basically just any help on what kit to look into and what the good batteries and motors are now a days. Thanks

Touring cars have gotten popular, there are many good cars out there. There are several methods to use to narrow individual choice, initial price, competitive level, parts availbility, ease of building and personal feeling toward company (sometimes a bad experience, limits a person going back to a certain company).
Some manufacturers build in tons of ways to tune that can confuse or make tuning a headache, while others use a simple method that achieves the same results.
Batteries and motors seems to be the biggest area of change. A year ago everyone was going to the 3600, 3700 and 3800 cells or trying to decide which of them would prove the better of them. Now most are waiting to see which of the 4000 cells will be the best or waiting to see if they will be approved in Sept. For motors everyone was getting the handle on the Monster Stock and Epic Roar Stock now the hot motors are the CO27 and Epic X.

belt driven seems to be a racer fav in mod class at my track.few of us that run spec and stock use tc4's and give the belt drivers a run for their money.only 2 run shaft in mod and looks to be harder for them.

the basic tc4 kit is what i bought $220 and it also comes rtr.$235,there also the factory team woven cf kit $360 but im not sure what your budget is.i like it over the xxx-s though because of the better upgrades it has to offer.

team losi has a rtr belt driven xxx-rtr which ive had but didnt like because it was too much belt changing for a racer and basher.maybe if i strickly only raced it id kept.losi's belt driven jrxs i drove was alot better imo

i also got a trinity t-spec which are real inexpensive right now.its a good tc for spec or stock racing.not real competative for mod though..shaft driven and durable

thanks for the response guys. first off, highroller, where in nh do you race? i was looking to get into racing up at maximus in york, me and doing the touring class up there on friday nights or saturdays this fall. i live in nh not far from portsmouth. thanks for the help also.

bensb4, i was looking into a t-spec actually just bc i have heard that even though they are for spec racing that they will compete well in a stock class bc of the many adjustments they have that some of the higher end cars have. i really am between the tc4 and something like the t-spec right now. just a matter of getting up to the track and seeing what everyone else is doing.

the class is a stock class and i know you mentioned the difference between the belt and shaft driven cars. i was always under the impression the shaft driven was better but you have made me think otherwise. should i be looking into a belt driven instead of a shaft driven?

the tc4 is in my price range, just not the high end team editions. the t-spec looks alot better to me bc of its very cheap price. i just dont want to find out i cant run with it. i guess it means i have to get up to the track and check it out more to see what guys are running.

thanks for the help again

also, found this t-spec on ebay. not quite sure what is wrong with it but it looks like its going to go for pretty cheap. any thoughts on whether this is a bad investment or not?

Before you settle on one car, talk to Heath to see if he has enough racers who run the Spec cars, plus he runs 1/12th onroad. Before my work schedule changed I did run my TC3Team car in modified class at Big Boys Toys, drivetrain does require some additional work (filing, shimming etc) to run smoothly and free. Almost any style will require some additional attention running modified.
This summer I had just enough spare time to run the Summer Series Oval race at Maximus doing pretty well in stock. Just have some bugs that I haven't been able to shake out that's preventing me from running faster. Don't know if it's the radio or esc.

yeah I am going to try and get up there this week to figure out more about what people race, etc. I also have a rc10l3 sitting around that I have barely used and was thinking of getting into the oval series inside up there this winter. I know you said you raced there this summer and was wondering what you thought of the racing and whether it is worth getting into. I know oval has a lot more to do with motor and batteries and I am not really into getting into those wars and blowing all my money to be fast, so I was curious as to how you thought it is run up there. Thanks

and if I get the t-spec I will definately be running it in stock class so I shouldn't have to worry too much about the belt vs shaft driven. thanks for the advice.

have been looking into the tt-01 the past few days. seems like you can get a kit anywhere from 80-120 bucks on tower hobbies. anybody run one of these and have any comparisons to some of the other 4wd cars. or just any advice on it in general? thanks

I've raced there since it opened, other tracks in NE area including Pembroke.

Heath runs one of the best shows, many of the tracks run good programs as well as racers helping those who need help. Even in the oval racing classes not every racer shows up with the best equipment. Some come with the intentions to learn and have fun, but some have been doing it for years.
