We need more information - assume that we are beginners too.
Does the motor run for a few seconds then quit?
Does it run until the glow plug battery is removed then quit?
Does it run on the beach but stops when you put the boat in the water?
Did you ever twist on the carb needle?
Did you ever remove the engine head?
What fuel (exactly) are you using?
Did you follow the directions?
Is there anyone in your area who runs nitro planes or cars?

Please answer all the questions and we will try to help you.

that should be a mandatory check list before asking engine questions here! not to talk smack about newbies, but all info helps. it's the "help me to help you" thing. tell us whatcha got, and we'll help out as much as we can.

I did a review in here on the Grey Thunder so I do have some first-hand experience with it.
When new, they run like crap until you get a few tankfuls of fuel in them because the engine is still tight. Keep it rich during that time and expect it to really vibrate the hull. After some time, it will smooth out and be a great starting engine so don't give up on it yet.
Read the separate owners manual that comes with the kit that covers the engine as the regular manual covers both the electric and nitro versions.
Do a search in here for "Grey Thunder" and you'll find the thread.

Here, I did the work for you: http://forums.radiocontrolzone.com/showthread.php?t=105821&highlight=Grey+Thunder , lots of tips and tricks once you get it going.
