The brushes on my Chrome Stock are soldiered in place. What a pain. Is it going to hurt anything, including real performance if I rip them off and just mount them to the heat sink thingies (I hate having to use a confusing technical term).

Thanks in advance.

Haunted, Probably not. It's just that most racers don't want to take the chance that they MIGHT miss out on a few miliamps of power. I know guys that run mods at a fairly high level that solder the shunt to the heat sink, but just tuck the other end under the brush spring. It don't seem right to me, But this guys been racing for about 15 years. You might try to just add solder the crimped tab on the shunt wire & then screw on. Be shure to hold with needlenose to stop the solder wicking back though. I think that the newer brush hoods get better electric transfer to the brushes than the old ones did without the brush stableizers. Joe

Thanks Railman! I don't own a soldering iron, so I will just snip them off. and use the eyelet versions.

There's also another trick you can try. Take the end of the brush shunt(that's the wire coming out of the brush), & tuck it under the slot where the brush spring goes into(the one on top of the brush hood). Use the end of the spring to hold it in, & it'll make pretty good contact without any soldering(I picked this one up from a big time motor guru, but I won't reveal his identity without his permission). It might sacrifice a tiny bit of resistance, but it's very hard to tell the difference, & it's incredibly convienient(& yes, I've used it myself from time to time, seems to work just fine)....... :D

Grizz, Now that you mentioned it, that's probably the teqnique I was thinking of. I never did it myself, & I think I got it backwards. Your way makes more sense.

Grizz, BTW, There's another post in the general forum where a guy is trying to figure out the leads to his power pack. Have you ever seen any KO equipment with the red + wires on the outside? Do me a favor & read the post, & comment. Thanks. Joe
