Money! I would go with a milder-mid hot touring motor, 12-13 turn range. Plan on spending a lot of money, because modified take a lot more, to maintain, and you will wear through parts faster, and you will break more(trust me, the first time I ran mod, I broke my chassis, another 50 bucks itself).
You will also need a new pinion, you probably have a bunch I am sure as it is. More tuning aids are a help as well, i.e. springs, etc, you will be setting up, obviously, for more high speed handling.
Batteries, depending on if your track runs the new ROAR 5 minute mod heats, you should get by with 2400's, you may even get by with those in the 5 minute races, but, do yourself a favor, and pick up some Stock Metal hydrides.
Also, take into consideration what the above person said.
Like I said, mod costs money, what I suggest you do, is get one, and take one day, where you do not race it, but just practice, all day long, try new set-ups, and new things, get your car dialed in, and get a feel for how it is, run the car slow, for a little bit, or else you will find yourself looking for your check book, getting new parts.
good luck!

XXXER has a good point, it's best to ease your way into mod motors, maybe just practice with one at first, then when you're comfortable with it you can enter the class. This will also give you a chance to test your car's set up alongside other mod guys in practice, so there won't be any unpleasant surprises when you start to race with it. As for which motor to get, that really depends on the kind of track you run on. If it's pretty tight or small, then a 10-13 turn may not do you much good, it won't get a chance to reach the meat of it's powerband. However, a milder mod, likea 14-16 turn will have an easier time making use of it's power, & also makes slightly better torque, so they're better suited for tight tracks(& also people new to mods). I'd only recommend something with 13 turns or less if your track is large enough & has good straights & hgh speed sweeping turns that'll let you take advantage of the extra power & top end. If you need the speed of low turn motors, then your battery choice will come into play also. If you use motors of 11 turns or more, then 2400's will work prefectly fine for pretty much any racing you do(except for 1/12 scale cars in 8 minute races), but with 10 turn motors or less, then some Stock Metal Hydrides would be an excellent idea(but remember you'll also need an appropriate charger for those, prefferably one that allows you to adjust the voltage peak threshold, like a Millenium or CE Pitbull)..... :)
