I have an RPM chasis and both front and rear arms for my 10T.... they are all that whitish color... I was thinking about dying them black.... Is this all for "looks" or is there actually a reason for dying parts? I guess I thought certain products may strengthen them?? Just a guess though :D

Dyeing has two purposes.
The first is to strengthen the part, works only on the white nylon.
The second by using a color that enhances appearance.

Yeah sheparay check out that auction link in your other thread, all the parts on that old T are dyed. :D You can use RIT dye, in liquid or powder form, mix it up, boil it, drop the parts in for 10 or 20 minutes.

The most important part: make sure you cover all surfaces and use OLD pots and pans so your wife/mom doesn't kill you. :D

I don't know if I agree with the strengthening part though. I have heard boiling does this, so it may just be a result of the boiling.

Last tidbit, not all parts will accept the dye. Some plastics won't dye at all. Almost all AE plastic parts will; the fiberglas towers accept some dye, but it's not a rock-solid black like the plastic parts are. Again if you look at that auction link, it appears someone got some CA on one of the parts and it didn't accept it in that spot.

RPM parts take dye quite well...better then most even.

Wow.... I have an RPM chassis on my 10T, they haven't been made in a long, long time... Matter of fact I just sold one I had that I never used...

If you don't dye it, it'll turn a yellowish color...

I can't remember doing mine, it was probably 15 years ago that I did it...

I dyed mine with RIT dye in blue initially. Then later on when it started getting beat up I re-dyed it in black..don't remember what I did with that truck...I think i sold it.
