A TC3 is a good car BUT...
It is a good rally ONLY if you have a bluegroove track (hard packed)...
Even with all the protection in the world (lexan covers every where)Dirt & crud WILL get into things... Unless you tape the front end up...
the steering is very problem prone
Rally is cool but the TC3 makes a pathetic fun ride in the dirt!
I converted mine only to wonder WHY???
It does handle well but a car designed for Rally is 10 times better (HPI)
so to answer your question...
NO dont buy a TC3 to convert unless you are ready for headaches....

but the hpi is belt drive and it gets hurt by pebbles and stuff if you dont use the inner shell but if you do its get extremely hot

I have a TC3 With Rally it is very nice however I do not race it. It just helps for onroad racing where the pavement is not perfect.

yes I know but a TC3 will be undriveable once the steerring locks up...
heat yes... I know...
the spur on a TC3 is vunrable too...
& you cant find small 32 pitch spurs any more...no one makes any...
If you want a play 4x4 buggy check out a Kyosho Lazer2000 cheap & durable just add ball bearings. It is wider than a 200mm TC but it wont be problemmatic or a HPI Super Rally it is the nitroMT chassy with a rally body (very cool)
It is a loose loose situation unless you run a blue groove track or pavement...

The Yokomo Mr-4 Rally is designed for rally, its belt driven but it also has a cover for the whole drivetrain (looks like an ant farm). there are no pictures but its chssis looks almost exactly like the MR4-TC(rally has longer arms, diff. tires etc...) check it out yokomo usa (http://http://www.yokomousa.com/)

The HPI comes with a cover over the tub to reduce the amount of debris that enters the tub.

Mason, what type of motor do you run? I've run my HPI Rally with cover both on and off, and yes... the interior shell will make the engine warmer. When you swap batteries... give it a few mintues to cool. I never do, I run it through 3-6 packs and then let it cool while I charge up the packs again. Never had a problem. Then again, I only run a P2k Pro in my car.
