Hello !
I bought this kit from Serious Black. He's a true RC maniac and a real nice guy.
Anyway, I just got done stripping it down and rebuilding it (not that it needed it, but hey I gots to know what makes it tick :p )

is that a black magic motor?

No, it is a Peak Aurora 14x3.
I put the PEK2151 brushes in it. Not a ton of power, but they last a long long time.

BTW... if you want some extra protection i think its RPM who makes the extended front bumper and the nerf wings for the sides. i really recommend these if you plan on racing. they save you from buying dozens of A-arms!

Actually, it's BRP(Bud's Racing Products) that makes the wide bumpers & nerf wings for the TC3(I use the wide front bumper, it really helps alot). As for the blue foam bumper, Trinity makes that(also have that, & I like it). By the way, jeep, if your track favors it, you should definitely try the one-ways for it, I have the dual setup in one of mine(front one with the GPM shaft one-way) & on a good surface the car just rips!!.... :)

draggerman and others, I prefer not to say the price. Had I not mentioned Serious Black's name I might say, but in fairness I prefer to not say. If Brendon does not mind, he can tell you. I don't care, I am just considering his interests ...
HM, since I bought it used I am not sure who makes the bumper ... up until the responses to this thread I thought the FT TC3 came with it :) ... Now I am curious ! Serious Black maybe you can help out ?
I am not sure that I will be racing it. I don't race much. I might though, just to see if I still got it ;)
My buddy has an RC4 Pro2. It seems much more quiet and smooth. I think my servo slection is a bit off (Hitec 5925). It seems REALLY twitchy at high speed. Maybe it is just the set up. This is my first sedan, and only my second on road car (my first was an RC12 LS).
Did I set the electronics up properly ? I seem to get a slight glitch at less distance than my other RC kits. I might try putting the reciever on the servo ?
I think I am a tad overgeared as well. I am using a 25 pinion on a 14x3 motor. Run time is good, but the motor gets a bit hot. I'll probably go down a tooth or two.
Should the front diff be tighter than the rear diff, like the XX4 ?
Can anyone recommend some good "bashing" tires ?
Thanks for any help !

your way overgeared jeep i run the 25 tooth pinion and 68 spur in my TC3 and i run a stock P2K pro. are you running the stock pinion setting? i would gear down a couple teeth in your pinion.
As for the twitchyness... is that Hi-tec a Metal Geared servo? i run the MG servos' in all my R/C's. they are great. otherwise are you running at full speed AWAY from you? i know it doesn't take long to get up to full speed on an electric TC... but you may be getting out of range. if you are having the car come towards you then i have no idea....
a reason your car may sound a bit 'louder' than your friends pro2 is that your spur gear may be a bit chewed up. check all the teeth on the gear and if you see some little pieces of the gear in between the teeth take a hobby knife and get em out. you'll have to move your motor a tad closer to the spur because the teeth be a bit smaller. this is just a quick fix if your spur is stripped. make sure you have a good amount of play though... good luck and hope this helps.

HAUNTEDMYST AND JEEP:it is a TRINITY foam bumper :)
JEEP: as for glitching, i see you have a novak xxl. from my experiences, the graphite components for the TC3 and XXL dont really mix well :D
so you are right, try mounting it on top your servo, but it still may glitch a slight bit, but you should still get ALOT more range from it like that, plus youll have alot more space!

I run almost the same setup as you JEEP, (ie electrics, etc.)

yeah, i do toe in VERY differently and im working on that.....
i set it out far and move my way in towards the chassis, not straight then going out ;)

oh chizzler. I have a tip for ya. Twist the motor leads together, it reduces the radio interferance.

Thanks Jeep and chizz. As for chizzlers toe out, it may look strange, but he is one of the top 3 drivers at our track. I am looking forward to him spanking Mikey in two weeks! :) (and yeah, its 2 weeks, not next weekend!)
chizzler
08-26-2001, 03:14 PM
BAH!
i gotta wait another 2 weeks to race?
as far as spanking goes we'll just have to see about that........ :D
i dont like to cross motor wires if they are less than 4", just a peev about wiring..., and it looks ugly too :)
if it does cause any interference i have not noticed it yet, and i can drive my car over a block without any glitches! ;) so i guess im all good

Jeep, nice car. I wish mine was like that.
I got this car 3 days ago. I just took it 2 min before I made this reply so I had to time to clean it.
I hope its not to big.

Sorry Jeep, I didn't even see this thread until today.
Yes, indeed, that is a Trinity bumper. The reason it's chopped up on top(Jeep has it flipped for the photo) was to properly clear the body, it actually needed to be trimed a little more. The stock Associated one needs to be whittled down to about half it's normal size to fit most bodies.
That was a great car, I think I had 11 first place A-Main wins out of 15 races. I wasn't as consistent with my YR4-M2 Pro.
As for gearing, the 72 tooth spur is fine. I ran between a 27 and 29 tooth pinion with the P2K. The Green Machine, MVP, and Orion motors seemed to like 24 to 27 tooth pinions. I'm not sure how I'd gear the car with a higher-turn mod, I'd refer to the manual.
I don't mind telling how hard I got scr... I mean, how much I sold the car for. I think I included five bodies, two sets of tires, a brand new Reedy MVP, and even the original box, all for the incredible price of $190. I feel like that was a fair price, considering that I got my use out of it for the season, and it's only around two months old. I'll be buying another one next summer.
I'm actually gearing up to get a little more serious about racing my 1/5th scale car. The money from the sale of the TC3 went right in to two new servos for it. I just got my new Opel Astra body today ($244 with stickers  ), and my new Elegi slicks are due in tomorrow. You need one, Jeep! I brought mine with me that night to try and get you interested. :D

Oh yeah, I forgot about the glitching thing. For whatever reason, I never had a glitch running my 27 mhz KO Precious, but as soon as I installed my 75 band M8, the car would glitch. What solved it for me was lining the battery area with Associated chassis film. You only need to do this where the exposed metal or solder connections of the battery might contact the chassis. I just ran two narrow strips down each side of the battery compartment. Once I did this, the glitching stopped completely. The film wasn't on the car when I sold it to you because it had picked up dirt and tire dust from the track, looked pretty gross.
That graphite chassis is pretty conductive, and they pass the antenae wire right through it. I guess you could relocate the wire so it doesn't contact the chassis, but the receiver may still pick up the hits.

Thanks Brendon, for the info !
I think it was a good deal for both of us. I forgot about the FIVE bodies that came with it ;)
I have been "street bashing" with it, getting used to it, etc. I really like it.
(BTW, my TC3 with a 14 turn is faster than my buddy's RS4 pro2 with a 10 turn :p ). Of course you can hear the TC3 about 3 miles away and his is in stealth mode all the time.

Cool cars guys. Jeep, looks like you made out nicely with the TC3.
I have a question though, and I feel kind of stupid asking: for those of you who have the cells soldered to the wires going to the motor and ESC, how do you charge them? Do you just charge the cells then solder them before every race or what?
jeepinator
09-03-2001, 09:10 PM
Yes, I use alligator clips on the end of the charger's leads. Right before the run I solder the ESC wires onto the pack. With a good iron it is only marginally slower than a Deans plug. Maybe 10 seconds ...

Jeep, try drilling a hole aboud 1/2 inch up the ant. mast and running the ant. wire through it to keep it off any graphite. That fixed some prodlems with my xx-4 WE. Just a thought. :D

Hey Jeep -
Have you tried a new spur yet? The one that was on it when I sold it was only a few days old, but it might need changing. The car was only a little louder than the belt driven cars last time I drove it. Setting the gear mesh is a little trickier the first few times, but once you get it, it's simple.
I was cleaning off my work table and noticed a shiny bag of stickers and window masks sitting on top of my boat. Looks like I forgot to give you the sticker set for the GT-40 body(the unpainted one). Sorry about that. Let me know when you want to hook up.

SB, naw, the noise is prolly coming from my 8 years old Losi pinions. I am sarting to wonder if it is why most of my kits are so dang noisy !
... and I am pretty sure i understand gear mesh :p I have only been doing this a couple of months you know :D
Well, I have been spending every spare minute out at that guy's house you met. He just bought 5 acres out past Redland. We are making a BODACIOUS track ! Dirt, of course. If you are able, I would like to meet up at Mcmenamins and have some Black Rabbit Porter or Hammerhead Ale !
Maybe Friday night ?
