Does anybody do this? I was told by a friend who uses nicads all the time that putting them in the freezer for about 24 hours supposadly erases most of its "memory". Will this harm the pack by freezing it??? I already put my packs in so we will see what happens!

We also heard something along that line many years ago. We used to charge our packs the night before a race because we didn't have enough chargers to charge enough packs for four people (me & 3 boys) on race day. It seemed to work well at 1st untill we had a few packs go bad, some of which were premium packs. After wards, after asking around, we found out that what can somwetimes happen is that the plates can be warped by the extreme temps & short out to each other. We quit freezing & bought more chargers.

I just don't understand that. If you put metal in the freezer, then take it out to the track at room temp or higher, won't you eventually get RUST from the condensation?!?

Gutterball, There was some condensation, but it was just a little on the outside, & that wasn't a big deal. The warped plates were another story.

In the old days  cant believe I said that..... we used to place our batteries in a chill bin (or whatever you guys call them... ice box??) after we had used them to cool them quicker for the next charge. Other than that I wouldnt really like to put them in a freezer overnite.. cant be good

Batteries do NOT like the cold, or heat. However, some chillin is ok. Some heat is ok too. The range depends on battery and all that. Try to keep them at room temp (70-72 degrees) don't over heat them, and they'll last a long time. Freezing them will kill them.

Also, if I remember right, batteries decrease in power the colder they get. That's why people buy high cranking amp batteries for cold weather car starting.

Along the lines of Kiwircguy, when I was younger and playing with my Nikkos some of my friends use to put their batteries in the freezer after a run and before charging to cool them off.
Anyone think that would still be a good idea today or have chargers advanced so much that it isn't needed? Or is it just bad? I would think that for a few minutes (maybe 15) It would help out a little. Course I just bought a lot of packs and a couple chargers (as I am sure most of you have too) so I don't have to worry about always charging.
