yes, you should get a discharger to maintain your batteries in top condition. for stick packs, you can build your own discharger out of 10 pcs. 12v automotive bulbs or you can buy prebuilt ones. i also suggest a cutoff device to prevent overdischarging. the cells might be damaged, especially nimhs which do not like deep discharging. for side-by-side or saddle packs, get a battery tray to equalize your cells. when discharging, it helps to keep a cooling fan on your batteries or let them cool first before putting them in a discharger.

No, you don't need a discharger, but it's one of those things racers use to increase their battery's performance. Unless your race often, just run your car until it slows.

That's not to say that you can't buy one. It's a wonderful thing to have when your racing, because you won't use the batteries entire capacity most of the time. But when your just bashing, you discharge the battery anyway.

deepending on what kind of batteries you have depends on what kinda discharger you should get. if you have stick pack batteries then there are certain chargers for that. ifyou have batteries that the cells and side by side a great discharger is the trinity Real Time 2. it is a conditioner and discharger in one. it has lightbulbs that die down as your cells discharge and a fan that hooks up to your battery that keeps int cool during the process. this is a great discharger and i use it on all my batteries.
