it has a 14 t speed gems 2, the soldering on the motor wires keeps coming off, dies this mean that i am over heating my gearing?

maybe your just a crappy solder'r. see if you really were to have over geared it the motor would give out and break before the wires would melt :)

Not to worry, I've actually been school trained in soldering and sometimes get a bad joint. If your soldering is the problem, I would practice on something other than a new motor.
Try the finger test. Put your finger on the motor for about 5 seconds, if it is to hot to hold for 5 sec, you are probably overgeared. The battery should also not be to hot to touch.

Does the too hot to touch count if it's 100 degress in the shade?

Okay, im a pede guy so ill help ya... your gearing should include an 12 tooth pinion, as a general rule, your pinion gear should have 2 less teeth then the turns on the motor. Not always true though but its a good starting point. Im not sure about your spur gear, so your on your own. I would suggest about a 70 tooth.
