Who makes a decent temp gun? Do they make any mini temp guns that are worth it? I am in need of a good temp gun.

Thanks

I have 3 temp devices - all acquired at diff times for diff reasons. The 1st was a Raytech jr. Then I bought Venom onboard gauge to see how much diff there was in the max temp during a run versus what I was seeing with the raytech. It took a little work fussing with the location of the sensor for the onboard, but finally I got it agreeing closely with the raytech. My gripe about the onboard is it eats batts, I'm always replacing batts!

Then I bought a Flashpoint cause its small, cheap and was handy to always keep around. All 3 generally agree pretty well. I had a chance to compare my 3 with a really expensive temp gun, an Exergen IR gun (~$250) and was pleased to see all 3 less than 5F diff than the Exergen!

There is only one rub with the Flashpoint - mine won't give the right temp on a shiny, polished head. Found out after installing a Nova Race Pro head. The onboard and Raytech get about the same, but the Flashpoint will be 25+F off, usually high. I've set and reset the emissivity til I'm tired of fooling with it and never got it to give me a temp close to the other two. Its a real accurate temp gauge for the bucks, but will not be right on bright shiny surfaces (hey, I just painted a spot inside the head around the glo plug hi temp flat black and with stock emissivity setting, it now agrees with my other gauges. I'd buy another if I needed one.

temp guns are good for a referince but you should tune by proformance and smoke. you need smoke throught the whole rpm range. different gas will give out different smoke amounts but you need smoke or else your engine wont last long
