What's wrong with using a ceramic high current 1K Ohm resistor for discharging? Why does everyone use $20 worth of light bulbs?

There are 2 topics within the last 2 pages on dischaging, both have good info. To answer you question about the resister it can be done, but the object is to dicharge them at a high rate, similar to what your car uses (about 20-30 amps). The resitor mentioned would only pull .0072 amps which should take until about next week. If you could come up with a .3 ohm capable of 30 amps it would work. The other reason is you want to stop, with lights you can tell, with resistor lights must be added, or use a voltmeter.
