MRC Super Brain?

MRC Super Brain Delta Peak Charger. Any body have this charger. Is it any good for Ni-cds? Or should i just get a different charger?

I had this charger for about a year. One day, it made a 'pop' noise and a light wisp of smoke rose out from the vents - don't know why, I had simply plugged in a stick pack to charge as usual.

I'm not saying this is a bad charger, probably just my usual bad luck as I have talked to other owners and they have never had any problems with it. I liked it; it was very simple - just plug in a pack and leave it alone. It was only Ni-Cd compatible I think.

Now, I have the Duratrax Intellipeak Deluxe charger and I think it is worth the extra $30. It has adjustable charge amps, discharge at 2 & 10 amps, has 2 cooling fans, and is Ni-MH compatible too.

I was surprised to see it voted as the most popular budget charger in the last issue of Car Action. Anyway, I had the original "Brain" charger and it lasted less than a year. I didn't see any smoke, it just stopped charging. I would suggest looking elsewhere, but that's my opinion...
