View Full Version : Value? Dale Earnhardt Sr. #3 Autgraphed body

I just ran across this the other day while cleaning out my R/C stuff. I have a perfect condition lumina body with the Goodwrench graphics. A few years ago before D.E. died, he was in Harrisburg, PA. I got him to sign the windshield of the body and I've never used it since then (obviously).
Since I am getting rid of it, what do you guys think it might be worth? I was either going to post it for sale here or on eBay.
Here is what it looks like:

Just do a search on ebay for "Dale Earnhardt" and see what other people are getting for DE autographed items and you'll probably get some idea what you should try to sell it for.

Material objects are only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
The Intimidator's autograph is priceless, keep it forever!
yeah, even if you are selling the car you should keep the body. I'd hang it up somewhere as a conversation piece.

I know, it's like he just kicked it to the back of all his RC stuff, forgot all about it, didn't care. Now he finds it and is like, oh he's dead now, I can sell this thing for big money.
I say sell it, you don't deserve to have it...

I say, just give it to me, I'll take good care of it. ;)

WRONG...
I've stored it covered in a sealed bag until no. I just figure it is time to pass it on.

Only he knows if he's got what he says he's got... judging by this DE autograph I found on ebay, one could reasonably have doubts...

You guys are starting to become extremely rude. I am very dissapointed in how people on this juvenile board are responding.
1. I stand corrected, This is a Monte Carlo. My mistake.
2. It is a ture DE autograph. I waited for 7hrs in line at Sutliff Chevrolet in Harrisburg, PA to have him autograph this.
I was always a big DE fan. After he died at Daytona, I gave up on watching NASCAR and eventually stopped racing R/C. After I got married 5yrs ago, I thought I would get back into R/C. However, judging by this crowd, I'm glad I didn't.
The ignorance of the general public amazes me. I ask a simple opinion and I get chastised for nothing. R/C must certainly be a HOBBY for over grown boys.
Very dissapointing. :(

my dad has a whole collection of signed stuff from D.E. that he prized. after he died, he promised that he'd never sell it to anyone. if I were you, save it. I bet it would look cool on a wall.
P.S. it is sad that people critisize you because you were looking for an opinion. it is a testimate to how sad the internet really is. :(

I may end up building a custom Lucite display case for my game room. Black out the rolling chassis and put nice wheels on it.

Only he knows if he's got what he says he's got....
I wasn't disputing the authenticity of the autograph, I was only refering to the fact he wants to sell it. Dale's signature is priceless. I was just saying, he doesn't know what a treasure he has.
Once he signed it, it stopped being just an R/C body and became a peice of NASCAR memorbilia history.
Keep it dude! And spray some clear over the sig. so it doesn't smear, wipe off or fade.

In one hand, you have an irreplaceable artifact of the world. The man is no longer here, can't sign nuthin' ever again. On the other hand, is the fact that its yours. Who cares what some rude person says on a message board?
Remember, its not worth anything 'til you sell it; then its value for YOU will be finite. If you keep it for yourself, its priceless for as long as you keep it.

Kenallwine,
I agree that you should keep it. IT IS PRICELESS..
I also feel that it is just a bunch of BS that you a not a frequent poster comes on the board and ask's for help and get all the rude replies! Especially from senior members. Or all the other posters who have been complaining about the board going down the tubes lately, now I see why it could be going down.
Come on guys! This is a just a guy who just asked for a little help.
Kenallwine, MOST of the people on the boards are great people and will offer tons of help. You just didnt get replies from them. For what it's worth, I am sorry for their replies.

seeing these comments as rude is an opinion. i've always spoken my mind and if it offends someone-oh well thats their problem that they take offense to it. that being said adrcracing's comment is the only one that i coud possibly see as being rude so saying that "You guys are starting to become extremely rude." is a stupid generalization. if you can't handle the negative comments as well than don't ask the question. you asked for opinions and that's what you are getting. i personally don't care for NASCAR because anyone can draft and drive in circles so i would sell it and buy me some tickets to next year's le mans.

The only reason I said what I said and posted the links to ebay items with other DE sigs was so people who might be interested could know that it might not be an authentic sig... people are too gullible sometimes and should always be aware there are people who will fake a sig for money. It happens all the time. Especially in sports and music memorabilia.
So... buyer beware.
And, there's nothing rude about that, kenall... if someone else was here posting this body and you were interested, you might appreciate what I did... it might save you spending a lot of money on a fake.
It would at least make you think twice before you laid down your money.
BTW, you're asking us take you at your word that you stood in line for 7 hours to get him to sign it, but you also want us to believe that you want to sell it after waiting 7 hours for it? That doesn't quite add up.
People in this hobby aren't rude... they're smart... and we try to look out for each other.
If you were smarter, you'd have checked ebay for prices and not posted here asking for opinions, because what you did made your motives suspect. The RCZ policy is to post stuff like this in the "Buy/Sell/Trade" forum, anyway.

The RCZ policy is to post stuff like this in the "Buy/Sell/Trade" forum, anyway.Valid points, but remember, posts are like art...it's all up to interpetation. It's hard for a reader to feel the same intent as the poster, so you have to be careful and choose your words wisely so it comes off most clear what your intentions are. I personally didn't see any offense with your post, but I can see how someone could.
And your right, the buy/sell/trade forum would have been better, but I think the reason he put it here was that he wasn't even sure he wanted to sell the body. He just wanted to know what it might be worth. And your right again, checking Ebay would have been a better way to find out.
As I said, the body now has nothing really to do with R/C. Once Dale signed it, it now belongs in a whole new catagory.

06-23-2006, 11:20 AM
I posted here since the members on this forum know the most about R/C and thought I would get approximate $$ guesses. I did look on eBay however most items are just pictures or plaques and I saw a hood. There wasn't anything in this category.
However, with that said, my wife even asked me the other night if I really wanted to sell this.
I'm leaning towards not selling for points listed above.
Hopefully you guys can help me on this one now. As I have been out of the hobby for such a long time, are there front and rear wheels still available for the original RC10L pan car? This is what this body is sitting on. If I am going to keep it, I would like the chassis to be presentable.
BTW, I appologize for jumping on everyone. I got a bid defensive about the authenticity of the autograph.

Sure, there are wheels available... 10th scale pan isn't totally dead. Check around on here and you can probably get some good advice:

My comment was rude, it bugs me when people try making a profit off someone's misfortune. I've turned down #3 paint work cuz of that. It also bugged me he was advertising in the paint section, us painters are not allowed to advertise items we are about to put on ebay. Anyway sorry if I hurt your feelings.
It looks to be authentic to me, but it would also be very easy to fake. Just put a print of the SIG under the windshield and trace.
Dale singed it for you, and I hope you keep it for yourself.

Well, if you do it, I'd like to see a PIC of that display case in your game room, when you Get ER Done. Sounds like the best idea for the car yet!

Well I hope after all this, and your wife's voice, you decide to keep it. Remember, you stood in line for 7 hours! It must have meant something to you then, so I don't see why it shouldn't now. Put some nice NASCAR wheels/tires on it and put it in a display case.
I know your just getting rid of some R/C stuff, but I don't see how you can look at this body and consider it in the same catagory.
#3 lives on forever!

I wasn't able to find NASCAR style wheels. I found some pre-trued wheels by Jaco on tower's site though. Do you know where I can find accurate NASCAR style wheels with the yellow lettering?
Yes, I am keeping it.

Glad to hear your keeping it, good choice!
Dunno of these would fit your chassis, http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNV38&P=ML
I know I've seen the tires with white and yellow lettering, just not sure where I've seen them.
I'll give a look.

I don't think they will work since the rear wheels on the pan car are like 2 1/2 times wider than those. I might be able to custom machine something that would work.

Found this old thread, http://forums.radiocontrolzone.com/showthread.php?t=76167&highlight=nascar+tire
If your just gonna display this car, it doesn't have to be functional, just has to look good. You can just mock up some wheels and tires. They don't necessarily have to fit the pan car wheels.

Now I will also apolagize for jumping all over everyone. That post was just my opinion just as all of you made your opinions. It's ALL GOOD now I hope. Kenall I would also love to see waht it looks like when it gets displayed! I think you made the best choice.
