What would it look like if I did a transparent black then backed it with chrome? I like the look of black chrome. would this be the way to get it or can i do something else?.

I've tried doing that. It looks really good but can be tricky. You have to keep the black quite thin in order to allow the chrome to show through. It is tough to do this and keep the black even over the whole body. If you just do small areas or thin stripes it is easier to keep the black transparent enough and evenly coated. Perhaps instead of black try using a "smoke" color such as Tamiya's smoke, or a "window tint" paint.
