View Full Version : Best electric sedans RTR and otherwise?

I'm considering an electric RTR 4-tec. Does anyone know of any better RTR sedans? (I'd consider better meaning faster speed wise with roughly the same run time and/or better handling, durability, etc)
I'm new to the hobby and all the choices seem mind-boggling. I'd also consider a kit if they're really that much better than the RTR options for around the same money (up to +$50 over the 4-tec unless it’s really worth even more). If so, would anyone be so kind as to advise on the parts I should get? I'd have no clue what to get motor, radio, battery wise, etc.
Thanks!!!

The TC3 comes in a rtr and is a little more durable do to the shaft drive. Not out yet and dont know what the price will be.

OFNA also has the OB-4 International RTR, & it looks very nice, it's well set up for a beginner, or for anyone. Though my choice overall would be a TC3.... :)

I've heard people raving about the TC3 everywhere. Is it that much better then a 4-tec? Is the team version really worth $50 more than the racer? Or even $150 more than the racer for the factory team? Any advice on which motor and radio to get? I'd like a motor that would give just as much run time as the 4-tec motor with the best performance possible since atm I'll just be using it for bashing... would that be just any old 20 turn?. Thanks for all your help guys!
Just my two cents about RTR - they're great for first car owners to get you running quickly, but if you plan on keeping it a while and racing with it, you may be better off getting a kit. Believe me it will be much easier working/repairing your car if you knew it's pieces and how it's built up front.

The Traxxas 4-tec is alright out of the box. It can be competive with a decent driver. But if you want a good shot at the A- main, get the TC3.

The Ofna that Gizzbob was talking about is awesome for a RTR! This RTR kit has Threaded Aluminum shock bodies, CV-style front axles abd a pivot ball suspension, full graphite besides the a-amrs and even the steering plate is carbon fiber.
I can keep going on about this car. This kit is like the TC3 Factory Team but its in a Ready to Run form. For get it being in Ready to Run form, talk about adding a nice stocker and its Ready to Race!
Look at all that graphite and aluminum!  :D :D
Now if i can only find this car sometime soon. Im willing to spend the money on this RTR kit.
WOW i love this car!

I have to agree with BadRacer. I used to have an HPI Pro 2 and it took me a LOT of money just to add all the hop ups to make it equal to the way that Ofna comes out of the box. If you've read the reviews on it, you'll see it's a true racer and the only areas I remember it being knocked was for the motor being too slow. But lets face it, if your going to race, you want to start out in stock class and you can always swap out a motor. At $330 that thing is the steal of the century (if you don't coult the Kyosho Turbo Inferno w/engineI bought off a street person in New York for $35) :)

Just keep in mind, unless the car is made of depleted uranium, it WILL break things at some point, & if you have to order them & wait a few weeks for parts to arrive, you won't be having much fun. It's always a good idea to make sure the car you want has good parts support locally. BadRacer, i think that Scott Martini(SCR Hobbies) has sold some of those OFNA's, you might give him a call if you really want one.... :)

I would agree with you TC3 (and it still might have been) but this guy knew everything about the car, down to what hop ups were on it, that there were metal gears was on the servos. that is had a dahm's body (an odd maker of bodies), etc. I think he was just living in his van and needed the cash.

Gizzbob, ill have to call around and see if i can locate one and find a hobby shop that carries parts.
Im not to big on RTR's, but this one is awesome! But i am trying to decide which one i should get. Its either the TC3 or the OB-4....i like the fact that the OB-4 has all the stuff i look for in a kit but i hate the fact thats its RTR. And on the TC3 side of things i like the shaft driven ones so you don't have to mess with belts but for a FT TC3 its going to cost me 300 bucks which is really going to hurt my wallet (i can fork over that kind of money and im 17 but its just something that steers me away for the Factory Team) and on top of that i still have to buy tires, rims, and body....if it would at least come with a body id jump on it because i usualy ditch the kit tires anyway.
Well i got to make my mind up by the 11th, if i can't find the OB-4 International, ill just go get a TC3 Team Car because im not forking over 300 bucks for a newbie on-road guy who's been racing off-road since he can remember to mess it up......and how needs all the graphite to go fast anyway? My XXXT is full graphite and can't notice a bit of a difference in track times.
Well thats enough for now, oh yeah does anyone know if the TC3 Team comes with the blue screws and nuts?........just had to ask :D

No, the FT TC3 is the only one of those that comes with the blue screws, & to be honest, you don't need 'em. They're most likely aluminum, which makes them easier to break or strip than steel. I agree, unless you demand all the hopups immediately, then a regular Team TC3 will do just fine(it's what I bought, & I just picked up one upgrade at a time, much easier on the budget :)), it does allow you the pleasure of building it yourself(which I do enjoy).....

I think im going to end up with the Team TC3. All the trick parts doesn't make you a better driver they just make the Car a little lighter and more prone to breaking.
Then i was looking at Tower and they have the HPI RS4 Pro 3 In Stock now. Im comparing the RS4 Pro 3 to the Team TC3.
The Pro 3 is 199.99 and the Team TC3 is 204.99 and with both i still have to buy a body but with the HPI i have to but Tires and inserts. So basicly they are going to end up being the same price.
Well i have to go do some more homework on the cars, ill let ya know what im getting and why. Oh yeah no one say anything about the TC3 Racer....theres no way im getting one of them unless i have low cash flow and i really want a TC, then the HPI Sport 2 would be considered too. LOL this is hard! :D

Actually BadRacer, most of the people that I know that race prefer the sport TC3 because the composite CVD's. Their lighter and faster then the metal ones.

At Tower the TC3 RTR is on order but the price is like 230 or 240. Not bad. My only beef with the Ob4 International is that the stock motor is a peice of poo. It all depends on what your lhs carries and what you like to drive. Try going to a race, and asking somebody with one of these cars if you can drive it.

Hey HauntedMyst, iv heard alot of people change to them to the composite CVD's.....and they seem to like em better.
I basicly know what im looking for, and the TC3 Team and RS4 Pro 3 have what i want. When i first started out i had a orig. RS4....at that time i learned alot from the little TC so its not going to be hard for me because i know what im doing. I sold it, and since then iv been an hardcore off-roader.....but im getting tired of not having anything to do in the winter and i just like TC's, so theres the major reason's im coming back to the on-road side of things.

true, for most, the blue aluminum CVD's are fine, but if you use a front one-way, they WILL break, & they're a lot more expensive to replace than the composite ones, which are dirt cheap but work just as well..... :)
