I have had a reoccuring problem with the sermos connectors on my motors going to pieces after a while. Anyone have any ideas on what might be causing it?

I've heard that too, motor spray can make some types of plastic brittle. I use Dean's connectors, haven't had any trouble yet, of course I don't hose my cars down with motor spray either.

I use Acer connectors on my motor plugs and I have had no probs. They are the same as Sermos I think.
Stormperson where are you coming of saying Deans are the best? Have you ever even tried Acer's or for the matter seen them?

i have seen them, and from alot of the stuff i have read, they fall apart after some time. and they look bulky as hell, but whatever. i orginally used tamiyas in my rs4 mt last winter, and they heated up aton. i remeber after it snowed i made a jump, and i had to be jumping the thing for around 10 minutes, and i pulled out the battery (note the jumps wasnt that big, and it was on ashault, and the temp was around 20degrees F) anyway i pulled out the battery and it was wicked wicked hot, it barely passed the 5 second rule, but it heated up my hands real nice! (those are with tamiyas, which you should NEVER run) anyway i the switched to deans and i ran my car with a 12 turn motor on alot of rough stuff (rough=restance for the whole car=heat) and they never even warmed. they dont even melt when i acedently leave the soldering iron on them in the process of soldering the wires on. they are great. but that is just my opnion. but i have never tried the acer, duratrax (they sell em too), sermos, andi think 1,000 other names, connecters. sorry if i offened anyone.

What is the 5 second rule? I presume that's if you can touch the motor for 5 seconds without giving in to tell where the troops are... ha ha, I'm so funny! But really, is that it? I think I tend to run too hot, to highly geared, but am not sure.

its how long you can hold onto it for, if you can hold it for 5 seconds (keep your fingers on it without getting burned) then it passes. otherwise it means its a bit hot. well you can imagine
