Is it necessary to discharge nicads if you run them to the last drop? If so what is a good cheap was to dishcharge them? Maybe a charge/discharger combo as my chager is a hobbico 900 which has a manual timer. I think I need an automatic one

If you've just "run them to the last drop," then you have discharged them. You don't need to do an additonal discharge.

actually, if you them to the last drop, you may have discharged them too far. Once the car slows significantly, to half its normal speed, it is discharged far enough. If you go further, you might reverse a cell someday, which will kill the pack.
