View Full Version : chop top
Has anybody tried chopping the roof of a r/c body down to create a lower roofline?...ive seen front end swaps so i was thinking similiar properties applied to chopping the roof of a body

The only person around here I know that routinely takes a saw to their RC bodies is MikeVillena. The VanillaGorilla is pretty damn good at it, but he also super details the interior to include figures so real, you can almost see their bad breath.
If you were to change the roofline, you might get some stability issues, especially if you tap something and the top you worked so hard on suddenly flies off.

This question has been asked a few times and I've yet to see someone attempt it. I'm almost sure it can be done successfully, but would only result in a show body. As Piggy mentioned, it wouldn't hold up well on a track.
Calvin has also demontrated his ablility to open up hinged hoods, windows and sunroofs.
lol that seems interesting i think im going to attempt it...I want to create this car like this

It can be done, the front end of a Corvette is Lexan. They sell a special exopy just for lexan. Contact a Corvette body shop and thy could posssiably hook you up with this stuff.......

Find some good lexan glue. cut the roof off from the end of the windshield (where it meets with the roof). It shall look as a convertible. Cut what u want of the windshield and side windows , and in the same shape as all the other "glass surfaces" where before being cut, like, round in the edges. Then, make small cuts into the base of the roof support columns, horizontally, parallel to the horizontal body line. Paint it, than use these cuts to align the columns and windows/windshield with the roof. THEN, glue everything with the lexan glue from the inside (paint side, of course.), and straighten everything with some epoxi. Done, have fun, I'll post pics later. (sorry for spelling or general text construction. I know that it looks confusing but is pretty easy, but i'm into a massive hangover. I'm out of here, c ya.)
thank you very much pocketace for the help...that really helped explain to me how its done

Weld on! thats the glue name! Weld On #16. the glue kinda works like PVC cement. it's a solvent base, melts the plastic together. The glue works great on Plexi. but polycarb is harder to get to glue to stick and melt! It will hold but not enough for racing!

I use IC 2000. Mix between regular lexan glue and a damn strong rubber composite. Ideal for glueing everything (as yr fingrers :D) and also gives a good finish. And is also heat resistent. And bending resistent. And better then anything else, srry vato loco :D:D (just kidding. Welding glue? Nice! I want it.)
so regular shoe goo wont work :D

nah :D. Krazy glue won't work either. Go to yr hobby shop and ask for IC 2000 or any other lexan glue, even better if is super strong, fast drying/curing lexan glue. The only problem with ic 2000 is the price (around 9 bucks)
