View Full Version : begginer truck
hello. I am going to by my first good rc car soon and i want to make sure it's good. i'm leaning toward a offroad truck but i'm not sure. what would be the best choice? i was thinking rustler but i've heard that it's not that great for raceing.

If you want to race you are better off with the Associated T3. But if you are a beginner you probably wouldn't be much better with a T3. The Rustler is a good all around truck and you probably won't be able to break it. I have the Stampede and it is great. Plus Rustler is ready to run with every thing except 8 AA batteries, a ni-cd, and charger.

The T3 is now RTR, it comes with REALLY good stuff, but if you race, that is what you want, teh rustler needs tons o hopups to get going with the big boys(and still doenst go all that good)

THE NEW T3 RTR IS A REALLY GOOD TRUCK BUT I DONT THINK IT WILL BE SUITABLE FOR A BEGGINER EVEN IF IT IS READY TO RACE.I HAVE A T3 AND ITS BAD A*S*S BUT I THINK YOU SHOULD GO TOWARD A TRAXXAS OR SOMETHING BECOUSE THERE MUCH MORE EASY TO WRENCH ON !
DONT DISCOUNT LOSI
what about the ultima type R? would it be okay for a bigginer? and about the t3- why are some cars better for begginers? is it just that begginer cars just easyer to control? thanks for the input, i really apreshiate it.

no i think kyosho's are junk, i stared in r/c with a losi xxt sport, i upgaded with bearings then raced, but i think it would be hard to begin with, si i suggest a rustler then sell in a year or 2 then get a race truck, ive seen traxxas compete at my old track but they never won but managed to be on the tail of the other drivers
GO WITH THE PROTRAX STAMPEDE!!!!its an awesome off-road truck that can handle more abuse than an Associated T3, or a Losi. Everything on it is tough. Its fast also. The extra ground clearance is a plus. And the Protrax version comes with bearing in the tranny, ESC, nice body, and its RTR. I have a Team Orion Orbital 17 turn on mine and it flies!!!A GOOD ALL-ROUND truck!!!

I'd say a Rustler too. I got the Protrax version and my buddy has the regular version with an ESC and let me tell ya, these babies can take TONS of abuse! We already jumped them off our porches(about 10 feet up) and haven't broken a thing...yet! I changed my Stinger motor to a Reedy Firehawk and my rims to some RPM Talonz. Lots of fun with these babies! Sure they might not win races, but they're a huge step up from Nikkos! http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif
ok, cool. i'll probly get a rustler since that was the most sugessted. thanks for the replys it really helps!

You sound liek a beginner, Rustler is good, fo rstarters get
-MIP CVDs
- Big Bore Shocks
-for beginersstart with a stock motor (p2K pro)
- Get a Novak Fusion if yo udon't fell liek spending alot of money.
- Get a Kit so you can get a better radio AM 25mhz is teh best for racing. But an M8 is the best radio to use caus eit's programable an dhas all the goodies on it. but a Airtronics Rival, XL2Ps, or a Futaba Sport or Magnum is good.
Now if you wnated a Pro Car
Get a Team T3 (don't get T3 RTR, you want Competion Electronics-
Motor- Stock P2K Pro
Mod Sonic2
Radio- any FM radio is fine
ESC- Novak Atom, Cyclone, or LRP 7.1 or teh Stock one what ever is called
Batteries- 2400s with 4-pin power plugs
Charger- well if you want High Tech spend $1000 on Turbo Dyno Things, if you more of a beginner racer use a Hobbico 920 with DC power Supply, and stuff.
hope this hjelps
over and out
Steve
I think if you are going to race, or you are just thinking about it and a few more bucks dosn't matter you should skip the rustler and go with eather the associated or losi or kyosho trucks, these are the top of the line, they are designed for the track and are very durable.
The rustler is a good truck for backyard bashing but its not the one you want if you want to race,I had one and on the track it really was a pile, i would have to spend more in hopups then i paid for it just to get it half way competitive with older model stock trucks,i know it has a reputation for being durable but these trucks on a track get the heck beat out of them and my rustler broke as much as any thing out there,no more no less.it was also no easier or harder to work on.
If you are just going to backyard bash then you can't go wrong by gettig one, but if you are planing on racing it then you are going to wish you spent your money on somthing else.
GET A STAMPEDE. RUSTLER IS A GOOD TRUCK BUT NOT AS GOOD AS A 'PEDE. STAMPEDES JUMP BETTER!!!THEY CAN RUN CLEAR OVER A RUSTLER AND KICK DIRT IN ITS FACE!!!! http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
