Do you want to get into racing? If this is your first RC car, you should always go with a Tamiya :). They can be upgraded, but in the end it may not be worth it to seriously race. I'd say yes, you can go with a tl01, tb01, ta04, or ta03.

i have a TLO1 and i love it but if u go over a small bump it can get kinda bouncy on the account that there is no oil shocks but i love it it handels pretty **** good and u can upgrade it if u want o and if u want to make it 2wd just take out the the shaft and your set o and i can spin some MAD doughnuts! :D

the tamiya bodies are the most detailed, but there are less expensive kits that are more "race ready". the traxxas 4-tec comes to mind (i love mine) and kyosho makes some also. and hpi, shumacher, the list goes on...lol

For the first time buyer Tamiya is great. The instructions are usually top notch and the pictures are pretty good too. But, if you are planing on actually racing the car then you might want to try something else. I wouldn't buy a car without oil filled shocks but that is my preferance. The reason for this is it gets really annoying driving around and the car starts to get thrown around because of bumps and stuff. HPI, Traxxas and Associated come to mind first. But if you are going to run on streets and unprepared surfaces then you should stay away from the pan cars. They don't have hardly any ground clearance.
If you just want to have a fun car the Tamiyas will work very well. They are durable, relativly cheap, and have a good customer support service to back them up. However Traxxas has great customer service, IMHO the best.

Hey go with a TA-03... :D I hope that it isnt obvious :p but anyways... Tamiya is great even for racin around the street. I have 7 TA-03s plus a TL-01 & TA-02 at least half of em are built entirely of aftermarket parts

I agree with Kiwi. Tamiya cars are great for beginners but theyre also good race cars. I think the TA04 is a great choice. You can start with a cheap version to get going then upgrade some of the parts when you want to go racing. You can go plenty fast with a pimpin TA04.

Try this link: http://www.toyexchange.addr.com/tamcars12.html
It might have a picture of a chassis without the body on. The only kicker is you will need to know which car uses a TLO1 chassis.

TA03 Drive Hard,
I didn't look at every car but I thought that the Manta Ray was a converted TA01. But it might be a TA02. I get really confused when it comes to this type of Tamiya Chassis.
I did see a GREAT view of the chassis on your site though. I used the search function and found the link to your site.

Sorry I could have sworn there was a post on this thread directing a search for a link to a site you owned. Either it got deleted or it was on another thread. It has a pic of a yellow stang and an Accord or something simular. But it also has a bare chassis. Now that I think more about it TLO1 racer or something like that posted the thread and the link. Sorry TL03, I didn't mean to mix you up.

No your not missing anything. The lightweight chassis thread is where I read this from Project TL01. Check the bold type and you will see what I thought you had written.
I've the LW Chassis too. It's only about 2 or 3 grams lighter. I think it's the same plastic, just thinner maybe??? I dunno. I got it cuz I want a tricked out ride. For those who know me, I've got one of the most trick TL in here. I have a site and pics of it, but I promised admin I wouldn't link to it anymore. If you do a search for "My Project TL01" you may be able to pull up the original thread and it has a link in it, if not just email me and I'll send you the addy. =)
Sorry for the confusion,
Jerry
