Does anyone have instructions (with pictures) of how to remove and open the transmission of the XXX-T? I developed some grinding/clicking sounds that appear to originate in or near the transmission. I'd like to check it out and get it fixed as soon as possible.

Take out the motor.
Take the motor guard off.
Unscrew the bolt that goes through the rear shocktower and top of tranny case.
Pull it out.

I got the transmision out but didn't find any debris or damaged gears that might cause strange noises. I guess I'll fire it up and listen closer next time.

check the spur gear for a chipped tooth. then check the diff action. is it smooth or does it feel rough. also check the bearings. usually you have to take the transmission apart to check all the bearings.

I opened up the transmission but I only did a cursory visual examination of the gears only. Do I need to pull out all the gears and bearings to make sure that its running smoothly inside?

There should also be one screw underneath the tranny, inbetween the screws that hold in the rear hingepin bulkheads.

As for the grinding/clicking, there's a spacer on the top shaft that tends to wear out and cause vibration in the tranny. You can replace this spacer with another 3/16 x 3/8 bearing and a shim or two to shore things up.

Also make sure that the diff outdrives haven't worn out excessively.

Hope that helps some...

In addition to the above, just check your gear mesh and pinion. Might be as simple as improper mesh or a worn pinion gear.
