I remember when I was heavy into RC, like 12 years ago, RCCA tested all connectors and the Powerpoles came out on top. Powerpoles haven't changed, but I see now that Deans offers multi-pin connectors.
Which are better?
BTW, if you got a good electronics store in your area, you can find Powerpole connectors for pennies.

chums I personally like the Deans plugs better. The newer 2 Pin ultra plugs are said to better than the older 4 pin plugs. I have no idea if they are better or not but thats what I've been told.
I do think the Deans plugs make setting your car up easier. If you put connectors on both your batteries and motors, you can make it impossible to hook them up wrong.

Would radio shack have them?
Also, I rember that test. If your talking about the Dean's plugs with four pins there not as go as the ultra plugs, and there even harder to pull apart.

"If you put connectors on both your batteries and motors, you can make it impossible to hook them up wrong."
You can do the same with Powerpoles. Their downside is that they are fairly large compared to Deans.
"Radio Shack?"
No, I saw the Powerpoles in this electronics store, here in LA, called ITC Electronics. They carried all kinds of goodies; silicone wire, Powerpoles, and power supplies.

Chums: There is a thread a few pages back in which many people put in their thoughts about powerpoles. It is titled "power poles" I think. I don't like them, and some interesting points were made about powerpoles and their longevity in coastal environments like yours.

Deans! These are simply great. I have everything coverted to Deans. I wish batter and motor manufacturers would just make this the defacto standard. The Tamiya plug is simply outdated. It's the eight track tape player of connectors.

Chummy, where in LA is that ITC store?

Soldering iron......
The true "zero loss" connector ! :p
Well, I am a pretty good solderist (hehe), but I prefer plugs on my 2WD cars. Very convenient. On my XX4 it is actually easier to solder, so I do.
Powerpoles are cheaper, but they suck royal ass !

Powerpoles are the best. Period. :D
Chummy, ITC doesn't have much. They have Powerpoles, but they don't sell them in bulk. They only sell in small pair-packs and cost more than Hobby People. Also, the only silicone hook up wire they have is 18 awg for test leads, which is too small for hobby use.

old phart, too bad. a few years ago i remember them having a big bin with loose powerpoles that you could just grab and take to the counter.

I just changed over to Deans and love them. I have a Vision Peak charger that would go up to 100+ temp with tamiya plugs after one pack. Now I can charge 4 in a row and it only gets half as hot if that, with deans. So my vote is for Deans.
