I wanted to pick up a set of 8 rechargeable AA batteries for a new radio I just purchased. Previously I used Sanyo AA Ni-Cads and wired a 9.6 volt trickle charger (from Radio Shack) to plug directly into my radio. My question is: How good are the new Energizer Ni-Mh batteries? (the pack said 70% stronger and last longer) AND can I charge them with my Radio Shack trickle charger? If not, can you explain why?
Thanks!! :)

You should be able to charge them with that charger. I would imagine they're good batteries, it's the no-name stuff that I usually stay away from. The only thing I would check is if your charger is recommended for Ni-MH batteries.

The nimh batteries should be a much better battery for transmitter with their having no memory problems. Best to charge them at C/10. Ex. 700mah at 70ma. When they get warm their charged which you can check with a voltmeter.

I got a HUGE tip for you ...

Go HERE (http://www.thomasdistributing.com) and get a Maha C204F and eight 1600 Mah Nimh cells.
They are pretty cheap. If you search around the site you will find combo kits (batteries + charger).
I have 2 of these C204F's ... they are kick butt. Quick charge, peak detection, discharge option. Can be run from AC or DC source. I use this charger for my radios, plam pilot, GPS, Digital Camera, Mini Z, on and on. NIMH RULEZ !

Bro I would check that charger, if it's not made for Nimh you could be smelling smoke. My local wally-mart is carrying Nimh's, I have 8, they are working fine. Wally-mart also has chargers, for 4 or 8 cell. The batteries are $10.97 for 4, the chargers are $9.97 for the 4 cell and $19.97 for the 8.
