You can solder the wire directly to the brush hood near or at where the screw holds it to the endbell. As far as batts go any batt will work but(not to be mean but being truthful)if you have to ask then a 12T is toooooo much motor. You would be better off with a stock motor. Cheaper to buy and less $$$ in broken parts.

i have a connector that slides on not an exposed wire, that is why i ask, also, when you say too much motor are you referring to chewing up gears or what? Also, not to sound mean but they are MY R/C cars, ill do what i want.

Superfast, I think if you use that 12-turn you're going to have to change your name to Superslow. I don't think that ESC can handle that motor.
Derek is right. You could only use down into 17 turns for the Traxxas XL-1 ESC. I bought a Duratrax Streak ESC to replace the traxxas one. Boy, did it go fast! So buy a different ESC that could handle that motor because it's worth it!

Do what dockman said. You said you have a connector that slides onto the solder tab on the motor? Weird. But, just cut the connector off, expose some wire and solder the wire next to the brush hood. Be careful not to get any solder inside the brush hood, or you will get the ol' stuck-brush problem. I would recommend doing this with both the positive and negative wires; that slide on connector is probably creating insane amounts of resistance. You might increase performance and runtime if you solder the wires onto the motor.
