:) Gday from down under all. Could anybody point me in the right direction for a spur/pinion combo to go with my new brushless setup. I picked up the new quark 125 monster speedy today and this motor is on the way,

Would it also be a good idea to get some steel idlers at the same time? I want to acheive the best combination of speed and torque. Thanks in advance, Kim.

Emaxx with a 540 brushless. You putting 2 in? 550 is almost a minimum size if going with one. You need torque with a maxx not RPM. Thats what the 2 speed is for.
Stock gearing is a good starting point. The manual should have a gearing chart, or recommended spur/pinion. I dont think it will have anything listed for the Emaxx though. Start with stock gearing and adjust from there.

After looking at the ebay link, it appears that your motor is an "L" sized can. I used to use the same motor (not the nice finned cans they make now) and it will give you pretty good performance. Steel idlers would be a good start to upgrade your drivetrain for a brushless system. As for a spur / pinion combo, I used a 14/66 ratio, but I also used very low quality batteries with it and probably never saw the full potential of the motor. If you use good batteries, you could probably gear taller. If you want, you could try looking around the emaxx thread for some other options for gearing, drivetrain upgrade, motors, etc. Hope this helps.
