If a strand of wire has snapped the motor will stop running and lock up it may even cause a short. It can be fixed by simply buying a replacement armature. Stock armature are around 12.99 to 39.00 for a hand wound modified armature. For a modified motor replacement, mark one endbell screw and then place another mark on motor can before disassembling (the marks should aid in reassembling motor to correct timing and turn in correct direction). For all motors keep the shims and spacers in correct sequence they were installed on aramture - check inside of endbell and motor as some get stuck in those places. Normal installation larger phenolic washer install next to comm followed by two metal shims, with one maybe two on output shaft end of motor. You will have to disassemble motor to get a better look at what may be wrong - you may find it was just a scrap piece of wire that picked up and sucked into motor.
