I have an RC10L3 Touring team kit that I want to start racing on a carpet track. What would be a good starting setup to try? (i.e. Shock oil and spring selection, front springs, gears, foams, etc) I will be using 2000 batteries, Atom ESC, and a P2K motor. I have raced gas 4WD on-road for that last three years so I am not a novice, just inexperenced with indoor carpet racing.

I'd been out of the sport for 9 years and got back in with my original 10L. I turned 44 laps only race with it. I bought and 10L3O the next weekend. First race with it 49 laps and second place with a stock setup and broken left steering block the last 6 lap(track record 54). Springs, shock oil, offset pod, all depend on track conditions. I race on a 150' flat carpet oval. My suggestion is start off stock and check with with the guys in the pits for tips. Keep posting with updates and I'll do the same. Maybe we can help each other.

After overheating the motor at a model expo this last weekend I took my RC10L3 Touring to the local carpet track races last night. Using the recommended setup from the instruction book and lowering the chassis as far to the ground as the stock part would let it, the only change was to put some 150 wt shock oil in the two shock that attach to the side of the rear pod. I left the center shock with what came with the kit. Batteries were in the center position. After running the first qualifier I ended up with a extremely hot motor again with 23 laps. Another racer suggested that I lower the pinion gear although I was using the 26 tooth that the book recommended. The next small gear that I had was a 21 so I put it on. The second qualifier ended with 23 laps also but the motor was a reasonable temp. With only two qualifiers the next race was the main. I moved the batteries to the forward position to try an get more steering. I ended up with 26 laps, it would have been more if I hadn't got stuffed under a pipe by another car and the corner marshal had to work to get it out. The winner of the A-main had 29 laps. Overall I was surprised with the performance. I have ordered the optional springs so I will be able to experiment with them next time.
