Should I drill holes in the rim to make it easier for the air to escape out of the tires of our Rustlers? They just seem to stay dimpled/flat for a few seconds when compressed. If so, what size drill bit do you use?

yes it helps.if they have foam inserts you can drill a 5/16 hole or smaller one in each wheel,on the back inside of the wheel.but if they dont have inserts dont drill them.i cant remember if the rustler has them or not on the stock wheels.check your owners manual before drilling.

The Rustler does not come with foam inserts.

Drill a hole in the tread of the tires instead. That way water has some way to escape.

i personally use premounted treadz on dry track when there is a need for traction. they have a 1/8th inch hole in the top.
but if i mount my own, i use kyosho spoke wheels, racers edge extra firm foams, and proline crime fighters. no hole drill. lasts longer if dust or water does not enter the tire. but performance is decreased.

I drill holes in the tire 180 deg from each other
dont touch the pre-drilled holes in rim.

I wouldn't drill holes in the tire  ! One 1/16" hole in the in side, side of the rim will be more than enough to air them up to many and to large of hole lets sand in the tire makes it unballanced :( ! Pro line rims and rpms come pre drilled!
Also you might want to get some better tires down the road. May I sudjest: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDU11&P=ML on all four corners. They work well on the rusty. Btw, Want power try this: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFBH5&P=ML on one of your rig Geared 20/87 and power it with a good 3300mah pack with those dirt hawgs. wheelie machine  !chris

my premounted prolines are predrilled in the rubber and the pastic wheel.
but i prefer to mount myself with no holes simply for longevity vs. performance.

This is absolutely correct. Drill the tire, not the rim.

Yessir...also dirt / water enters in rimholes causing unbalanced wheels.

dirt is gonna enter the tire ethier way you do it.a hole is a hole no matter where its at.i drill my rims and dont have any problems and race my truck.alot of the race wheels come with the rim drilled.
