Hey everyone,
I need some quick advice, my girlfriend wants to get her dad a r/c for his b-day. I recommended a rtr electric off-road car that can be ran in his huge backyard. Im leaning towards the duratrax ST or BX pro versions. Im trying to keep a total package under 300. How will they handle in like cut grass and stuff, i few inches. Would one be better? Also for batteries im thinking like 2 Nimh 3300s and a charger for about 100 bucks. The GPs from radioshack seem good unless i can find a good 2 pack on tower, How about a charger, like a duratrax one? Thanks for the help!!

is that crap

or is this worth it, this is his first time w/ r/c.
Or should we go with the MRC 959 superbrain?

I was leaning toward the BX thinking it would handle better but the truck prolly take more abuse. As far as i can tell they are the same w/ electronics and options like shocks and all that, just truck or buggy style is all thats diff right? Thanks man, more opinions are welcome!!

Go with the ST.
I wanted an Evader buggy and due to my fault I ended up buying an ST off e-bay. I then ordered a new BX off tower because I really wanted the buggy.
Bottom line, I never run the buggy. I always get the ST out. It does so much better all around that I enjoy it more. It's true that they are very similar but the suspension differences are enough that the ST, IMHO, is more fun to play with.

If you compare the specs between the two, the BX has .35" more clearance than the ST. It's also lighter, 2.81 lbs as opposed to 3.31 lbs, which most likely equates to faster starts. I guess taste and track has a great deal to do with choice.

I owned a BX Pro, and have driven the ST. For what you say you want, stick with the truck, but I would consider a Losi or Associated. I got rid of the Duratrax as quick as I could, the graphite parts were so very brittle.

For the backyard a ST is better. A buggy is light and has smaller tires, so it kinda has trouble finding the ground through the grass. It'll go through it, just has a harder time.
If he were running on pavement much, I'd say buggy. Buggies are quick and generally faster on smoother surfaces like a smooth off-road track or asphalt.

I have had both the ST and the BX. The BX is clearly a little faster than the ST, but the ST is obviously a little more stable and easier going for the driver. Out of the two, I sold my BX and kept my ST.
