I am looking to purchase yet another car and I need some input on the two cars I have decided on. Can anyone with experience on the HPI Sport 2 or Associated TC3 Racer give me some info on which offers the best advantages for the price?
Thanks,
Don

Hi I have a hpi NitroRS4-2 & a team kit electric TC3.I would have to say the TC3 but thats just my biased opinion! Both are really good cars & as long as parts are plentiful at your local hobby shop you should have no worries with either

I was given a used rs4 in 1999 and although it was a used TC (and cost zero $), I got it to run fine.It did require much maintenance however, due to the belt design. On my own I never would have went for an HPI product because I've been a loyal AE customer for 13 years in the offroad arena with 7 AE kits to date.
In march 2000, I went for the TC3 Team with all the upgrades, graphite uprades etc. I have had so many issues with AE about this kit its just ridiculous. defective molding causes incorrect rear toein and wont track straight at times especially when you throw some horsepower in. Yes it is fast, but at the sacrifice of many drawbacks . parts missing tec. are just blatant mistakes I can mention for which AE has Customer support for but the steering rack setup can be tempermental and the chassis requires serious tweak adgusting .I replaced part after part and finaly Told AE to get their act together in so many words and they acknowledged some of my complaints to date. Yes Everyone has A tc3 almost but be cautious in your selection.
PS AE produced so many defective parts that you will likly think you can replace rear defective hub carriers at a hobby store only to find out they are aslo defective, because AE circulated thousands of the bad stuff worldwide. Just one note on the rear toein issue. I will say however that for all 4 bad pairs I got from hobby stores AE finaly sent me 1 pair that were OK.

TC3, and defintely get the Racer and NOT the team. #1, Blue aluminum doesn't make you go faster. #2, blue aluminum CVDs bend easy, cost 4x as much to replace, and are heavier than the composites. #3, the teflon bearings aren't much of an upgrade. #4, you don't get a body! =)

Most people haven't had many/any probs with their TC3; I'm sure there's quite a few people with defective rear toe but in many cases it doesn't make a huge difference. There's also several mods to get rid of this, one of which involves basically putting the front suspension on the rear. Gets you more easily adjustable rear toe as well. Then you've got people using the rear shock tower up front for more steering...heck why mot just say the front of the car is the other end? =)

With that car i can beat even the pro TC3's

The TC3 team comes with everything you need to race, period. I finished building my TC3 at the races, and won my qualifiers. It is a perfect race car out of the box. The sport, on the other hand, I dont know much about. If it doesnt come with bearings or cvd's or hop-ups like that, then forget it. Hpi makes great cars, but we all like to get the best bang for the buck =)

Actually the sport comes with full bearings and all pro 2 suspesion geometry. It is a very forgiving and easy to drive car that is dialed in for most tracks out of the box. It can also accept stick or saddle packs. It is an awesome car i havent had any problems except that the belt wore out. It is said that the tc3 is bombproof but ive seen many more tc3's brake (especially the front a arms and hub carriers) than rs4's the rs4 is pretty much indestructable. Nothing against the tc3 its an awexsome car but im all for hpi.

Tha HPI RS4Pro I used to have, was forever tailhappy, no matter what you did, the back end always wanted to pass the front end.

The TC3 is easier to set up.

Another note on the Sport 2. Although it does use bearings, it has gear difs, not ball.

As for the fragile A-arms on the TC3, what I would do if I had one (and may get one soon) is to get a big front bumper from a pan car, and mount it to the front. The plastic bumper included on the TC3 doesn't cover the full front end. Although the foam bumper does, it obviously wouldn't give as much protection.

http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif trust me the HPI is an awesome car look at me im 13 and i placed 2nd in a ROAR regional event!!! plus its different than a tc3, 95% of the cars are tc3's we need some compitition here.
HPI parts are almost always readily available also and tc3 parts race off shelves every where.
like i said nothing against ae i race a rc10 buggy, but in my opinion the sport is the way to go in on road racing.

If you are going for racing, which I think most of us are, I would go with the TC3. I can beat my friends RS4 2 easily, with my Z10, but I can hardly keep up with his TC3, my car is faster, but the TC3 is an awesome handler. TC3 definately.
