I was wondering if anyone owns a Tamiya JGSDF? Does anyone have some good chassis pics or know where I can find some? How is it for off-road?

Also is there anyway to convert it to an independent suspension rig?

Here is what I am looking at, aswell as the other Tamiya off-road and XC kits......http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGYP5&P=0

Don't have one, but it looks similar to Tamiya's Touraeg rally kit they have (forgot what kind of chassis it is). I think RCCA tested one, and said it was pretty easy to flip, but was still pretty fun. Probably a fun basher, but you may have to run over to it to flip it back on its rubbers more often than another truck.

You can probably find chassis pics at tamiyausa.com, and just do some searching in there, or maybe try google images.

Thanks, I have looked everywhere for pics but can't seem to find more than the two from the Tamiya website......

I am looking at one of these type of Tamiya trail/XC rigs, or I might just get a Clodbuster and make a rock crawler(Which I think I might do).

I just haven't heard too much about this truck, but I guess it is the same as the Toureg, Pajero, Hummer....etc.

I believe that is an off-road version of the TA02 like the Hummer kit.

Yeah, I know what chassis it is and what it is based on. But that chassis shot is the only one I have seen, I can't find any others on the internet....

Thanks though!

The body looks wierd being that shiny... shouldn't something like that be painted on the outside with matte paint?

That chassis is an independant suspension...It is ok off-road, not nearly as good as some of the racing trucks out there. But it is made more to look like a military vehicle then for performance.

It's a hard plastic body...the one in the picture probably isn't painted at all since they are molded in green which is probably why it looks shiny.

InspGadgt the body isn't hard plastic like most other scale tamiya kits, it is lexan. The chassie doesn't do so well on grass or large rocks. But is is alot of fun.

Not the JGSDF, but another truck based on the chassie. You have to realise it is a tamiya scale vehicle, they have their own set of rules. The don't jump well, they don't handle real well, but they are a blast. And if you keep the screws tight, things lubed, and proportional they last.

I see you live in portland, there are some great places to take scale cars out play, check out orcrc.com. They are geared more toward rockcrawling, but some guys on there are way into the scale stuff.

That would be why it's shiny then!

if you play with it a bit you can fit hpi suspension on it from the nitro RS4 if i remember correctly and it works a lot better. You do have to dremel the arms a little to get the travel out of it though (you can also do this to a certain degree with the stock suspension). Really only works with CVDs though and they dont sell a kit that fits so you have to piece those together as well. I did that to my hummer and it is a lot more fun to drive as it gives it more travel. Also some good shocks are a must. I used some associated front buggy shocks.
