View Full Version : Will wiring two batteries in series ruin anything in my car if i'm not careful?

I was just wondering if wiring two batteries in series would make my motor or esc get really hot and burn up. Can anyone help me on this? I will be using a connector like this: http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i40/puckstealer/connector.jpg

Series doubles the voltage, so you will fry your esc if it can't handle the volts.

And the motor too.

Or your batteries will short out when those exposed wires manage to touch. I would say use the connecter with a 12-14 cell esc and a magnetic mayhem motor. You will fry the motor every 5-10 runs, but iw will be a blast and they are cheap. Or you can use it with a brushless setup that can handle the voltage and really have some fun.

What about if i wired them in parallel?

That would double your capacity, giving almost double run time and a little more power if the one pack wasn't providing enough current when the motor needed it. It won't actually double run time because of the added weight and there's no guarantee that both batteries will die at the same time, making one dead weight for an already almost dead battery to lug around. What are you planning on running this in?

The added weight of a second battery might end up puting too much stress on weak areas, but if you want run time I suggest getting LiPo, it's a much better alternative, but you will need a charger that can handle them. You could also get a 14.4 volt Lipo thats the same size or smaller than a normal 6 cell pack with the same capacity. Budget plays a lot into this, if you dont have much money to drop on new stuff but don't mind shelling out a little here and there for replacement parts, I would say go with parallel for better run times. If you go series you will have to buy a new esc and probably some drivetrain upgrades.
