i have noticed that with 3000-3300 maH 6 cell NiMh battery packs there is a lot of variety in price. What is the real difference going to be between an $80 pack and a $20 pack, in terms of runtime, power, reliability, etc. Thanks

very little in runtime. Power will be very little diff to a lot of diff as the load goes up. Reliability will also go up as the load goes up. (for the high dollar ones)
Without mentioning specific packs there may be no difference at all. Radio shack packs use gp 3300 and are quite good for $25

ok because i have been using the cheapest 3000 mah packs and they blow away the 2000 mah nicd packs that came with my car.

High end packs usually are matched, zapped and have share similar performance characteristics amongst other cells such as: volts, runtime, etc.......
You usually get what you pay for, and it'll usually show. But like guver said the RadioShack GP's are a good start on affordability, and performance. I've got them and they're prettty good.

Ya, the radio shacks will blow them away and some nice new IB or gp 4200 or 4300 will beat the radio shacks. They will also have more runtime.

The new 4200mah cells are just crazy capacity wise. Whats going on here is that we've just added an extra 1amp/hr of runtime. The benefit of running these packs doesn't stop there, it'll also mean that the packs will maintain a higher voltage curve during a 5 min heat than a 3300mah, which is obviously beneficial to a racer. Albeit, what does that mean??? Freakin more power & juice during the whole heat. Just Awesom dude!!!! Just U-Haul
