Sooo, im back in the R/C game again after a 4 year long hiatus. Used to have a hopped Tamiya TL01 and an old-school HPI buggy... now im into rally racing and I was wondering what was offered insofar as light, agile, fast rally R/C's. Would be loads of fun to race. I've heard of people buying on-road cars and altering the stock suspension set-up (links, shocks, tires, etc.) to achieve near rally-car performance. Is this the way to go? Recommend any kits to start with? I personally like the Tamiya TA05 as an on-road car, but never seen/heard of anyone who has converted it to rally. Im willing to spend some cash on this project, so dont hold back...advise me, people!
For nitro thrills try the GT inferno

Unfortunately those 8th rally cars are the best ones. Sheer sound, power, and dirt churnin action with the ability to go over more obstacles than the electric rally cars. You would want a shaft driven car for a rally btw, not a belt driven. The TL-01 is great though would need nice shocks on them for some fun. It is indeed better to get a straight up rally kit...those 8th rallys again will be the best. :)

For some really muddy fun, go for a Tamiya MO3. Sounds like an odd proposition? Well, head here:

Like the look of that, eh?
I thought so ;-)

Inferno GT or check out the Thunder Tiger Rally car - which looks on par with the Inferno.
The Inferno would be hard to top, since it is based on the 7.5 chassis. Hard to beat the platform.

don't mistake rallygame and rally.while many rally games are based off buggy plateform they are made for onroad racing.i've seen 3 inferno gt and i can say it sites very low so i think for offroading a landmax 2 is better (it was qualified as the only "true rally" car by RCCA)
oh and that tamiya mini rox :D

I had a landmax 2 for 4 years and got an Inferno GT today and did a full teardown and buildup on it using lots of buggy hop ups. anyways.. My Landmax 2 was a great RC but no way is it better off road than an inferno GT. In fact I thought my landmax 2 was complete junk off road until I put better longer travel shocks for more ride height and suspension travel and the Soft rally tires on it. After that it was actually usefull off road but because its soo narrow it traction rolled very easily.
the inferno GT much closer to Kyosho Buggy than the landmax 2. Saying the GT is for on road use Rally game only because its low stock suspension is silly. Its easy to get more ride height out of a GT by simply changing shock position. then all it would need for real off roading is to toss on some standard buggy off road wheels and tires and a softer suspension setup. Since the GT has the added benefit of having the long suspension arms it has a nice wide stance and won't traction roll like an LM2 and have more ground clearance than an LM2 as well. IMO the inferno GT is a much better RC than the Landmax was except.. the LM2 was 1:1 scale realistic in the details and body porportions.. the Inferno GT is cartoonish looking in comparison but overall performance will be better with the Inferno GT.
Here is a link to the post in the Inferno GT thread of my buildup that I just finished tonight..

well you could as well get a 1/8th buggy and put a rallygame body on it.it would be a true offroad machine
