nomaak
12-22-2009, 12:34 AM
Dee..yep still trying to get this thing ready. the car is more unasual than an HPI Pro3. I "upgraded" to the losi JRXS pro. it has one heluhva carpet setup on it. (low roll mount all around, 25 lb springs, syrup for shock oil, 2degrees pro-dive w/6* hubs....heck the car even has .5 degrees of rear toe...) gona take soul searching to find the stuff to get it asphalt ready in time.

BTW if anyboby have 15lb springs, 4 degree castor blocks, #56 pistons,BK rear a-arms or even a 2 degree susp block for a JRXS Pro....lemme know.

this is by far the most unorthadox (SP) car i EVER owned!!! but she's fun tho!!! LOL

E-LST
12-22-2009, 06:48 AM
I've got a type R and parts box with all that stuff and more, quite used and for sale, $125.00... type r and pro use different arms out of the box, but you can use pro arms on a R.
Bob

nomaak
12-22-2009, 09:03 PM
bob.. wish i COULD take that losi off your hands. that would add to my collection but i gotta get some more elektronikal goodies before i get another TC. wanna feel the Pro out first. then after that my sights are set on the xray "James Bond" car. (007 LOL). when i'm finished surfing i'm gonna get these necessary part #'s together for my hobbyshop. if they can get what i need before sunday then i'll order it, if not then i guess i'll "Run What I Brung!" the springs on this thing are SUPER short!!! using other mnfr springs aint working so i need some more.

Dee....donnie....I'm still game if yall care to let go of a descent stock motor. i would LOVE to have something i little faster than what i had down there last time (hint, hint)

E-LST
12-22-2009, 09:16 PM
What are you looking for? esc? bl motor? rx?????? if we are going to run sunday, I should be there, I'll have all that losi stuff with me if you want to look thru it. I think I have nearly all the springs, pistons and stuff

nomaak
12-22-2009, 09:29 PM
at the moment: 17 thru 10 lb springs, 4 degree castor blocks, #56 pistons, and 2 degree a-arm mount. the esc i wanna get is the castle. for 17.5 spec i'm looking at speedpassion and an EPIC based "tuner" brand brushless.

You, me and Will got the break away from the start and I think that Will got taken out by the lap traffic. Actually, you wouldn't have to totally change your asphalt setup to run carpet TC with rubber tires. Asphalt setups actually work quite well on carpet. It's basically what all my cars are set up on.

Anything Sorex or RP work really well on carpet, 36 and under. My preference are 28 Sorex, but I will sometimes use 36's if traction is too high. So your 32's are right in the middle. They will work fine for carpet. You will probably want to run a traction additive like Sticky Fingers as well, but its not entirely necessary because RW actually has a lot of grip because of all the oval that has been run.

If you can make it out, it would be a good chance to learn your car and get a good setup that will more than likely work outside as well. A few of us including myself are always willing to help someone out on tuning/advice.

It's goin good Guy's but it will definately be good to get back to the East coast. I've been spoiled out here with a nice indoor offroad track 5 minutes from my house and another 30 minutes away. Ther was a nice indoor asphalt onroad track in seattle but unfortunately they had to close. there is a parking lot race club that had a really nice program in the summertime (Run by a hobby shop), and there is another club that rents a hangar up in Seattle to put down a temporary carpet track on occasion.

Hopefully I will have time to help Yall out finding a new place to run. Can't wait to see all of you again.

yo Dee!! i wanna do some dirt just to keep racin but personnaly i hate off-road. got my first whiff of TC back in '99. beat the likes of steve rule & sean cockeran(sp) on the carpet and was hooked. tried to race TC but i aint a big fan of ROAR stock classes eigther so i raced off and on. stock was never stock IMO....it only benefited guys with the $$$ and those who had the hook-up. (to me) it never focused on the driver's skills like it should have. ya know....help new blood get good for modified.
sadly i STARTED out with mod motors and it's hard to go to stock at times because i like the sheer power! lap times dont matter to me when it comes to the feature.....its all about that trigger finger baby!!! but we'll see.

Hello everyone. I'm Theo and I met about two or three of you guys this past Sunday at the track. I was the one guy who said that I had been racing many years ago and want to get back into it. Well, like I said that day I want to get back into it but many things have changed since previous days of racing R/C cars (I was single and not in the Army). Therefore, I want to get into it cheaply at first and probably start out with a RTR on-road car. My past experience includes nitro racing but I think you guys mainly run electric out there. Any suggestions on what I should get and should I get it here locally or through Ebay, online...etc? Hope to beat...I mean race you guys soon...hehe.

They are running 17.5 Touring, Mini Coopers and this new class that you might like its a cost friendly class. It's called the Touring Gt class. That class runs the any touring car chasis, a silver can motor, any 2dr body and a spec tire. It's a good class for a beginner. Tag along and you can see what you would like to get into.

Well, if you want to go with Tamiya get a TA05 belt series car or a TB03 shaft series car. There are a few versions, so you will have a choice of what you want shaft or belt car. They are great cars to start with if you are not looking to spend alot of money on a car. We use to run nitros, a few people still have them. If everyone brings them out we can run them or you can run it in the run what you brung class.

You can pick up a T2 Pro from Nexus racing for $275. It's a great car for the price.

I bought an Exceed Champion Pro from another Soldier here on post. I figure I will re-tune my driving (crashing, hehe) skills with this car first and then get a good pro racing car. I'm sure I will probably get my ass handed to me with this car , but I have been out of the game for almost 10 years.

I haven't heard of that car. I will have to do some research on it. Yeah a lot has changed in the past 10 years.

It is one of those replicate models (HSP), like Redcat racing and Himoto. It will be a good car to start off with and eventually get some like a Schumacher or Xray.

Head down with Manny and Derrick. Give me 15 minutes with your car and you'll be good to go. I promise you will have a lot of fun. We have a few people new to touring coming this Sunday, so don't worry about being competitive you'll do fine. We have a class called Touring GT which is a great class for you to try out.

Ok here's what my car is running: 3300 brushless motor, Novak brushless ESC, and 27mhz AM radio freq. I took the car out yesterday and it ran pretty smooth except the suspension needs some tuning. Probably gonna check the oil in the shocks and replace with some better stuff. I'm running two crappy batteries, a 3000 and an 1800 that came with the car. I know LiPo is the way to go but what are they running in that GT class?

In the GT class they are running a silver can motor, you can get it at the track for $16. This helps keep the cost of racing down and the racing close. For the shocks use 40wt. Lipos are becoming more popular but the great thing about the GT class is that you can run cells and still be competative. I bought a 2400 nimh pack for my cooper this weekend and it has plenty of power. But if you can get a lipo that will be good, get a 5000 35c or 40c pack. If Hayes Hobby doesn't have any I'm sure that Glenn has some at the track.

No you can leave the brushless ESC in it, just take of the motor. Manuel and I usually pull out about 7:45 am, the track opens at 9:00 am. Racing starts at 12:00, they usually finish up around 4:30-5:00. What side of town do you live in? We are in Hope Mills and hit 95 from there, you are looking at about an 1hr drive.

What model novak speedo do you have on the car? Most can be wired to run a brushed motor. I can wire it up for you when you get to the track, and wire it back to brushless before you leave. It will take me all of 5 min, I'm pretty fast and soldering....and I'm not a hack, rest of the guys will vouch that I take care in what I do. If you can't purchase a motor at the track, I'll let you run one of mine. Suspension is no problem, 15 min and your car will be all set. Take Dee's advice if you rebuild your shocks yourself, 40wt being a good weight for the class. If you are unsure with rebuilding the shocks yourself, I can rebuild them for you when you get to the track. Your fine with those NIMH packs, if anything they should help balance the weight of the car better without having to add a lot of lead. If you do want to run a Lipo though, I have a spare 40C/5000Mah lipo your more than welcome to run for the day. But you'll have to borrow someone's charger since I only have 1 lipo charger at the moment. Whatever you need you'll be covered, no worries.

Thanks Timmie. I will probably at least set up my shocks. I was a big Nitro on-road guy about 10 yrs ago and remember how important it was to have my shocks tuned especially for that heavy nitro engine. I think I'm gonna buy a better charger also.

Yeah the initial setup for lipo is pricey, but as long as you take care of the pack, it will last you a while. Manuel and I get there early, that way we can practice and work on setups. Like I said we will leave around 7:45.

Good morning All, new guy here and just wanted to introduce myself as I might be moving to your area from central Florida. Just a note though....please don't try and e-mail me using the listed address...this is an old logon from a while back. Tried to setup a new one but the admin folks haven't sent me an activation e-mail yet. If any body uses RCTECH.NET I'm "evoracer" on that.
Already got in touch with Chris and got some basic info on the club. If I can find work up there I'm hoping to get involved with the club and maybe help make things even better. I run a club down here and have a drivers stand, Road Rails/PVC track and a I-Lap timing system ...although I hear you have an AMB already.
It looks like you guys divide your time among a couple different tracks. Any particular reason why ?? Also, Is the club growing and what kind of advertising or marketing do you do (like displays at car shows and other events)?
Are most of you military ?
Which classes do the best for you ??
I hear you have a good hobby shop close by. Do they support the club in any way?
Look forward to hearing more about things and hopefully meeting everyone . BTW, everybody calls me Dino. 6 years Air Force for me and grew up an Army brat. Dad retired with 22 years Army. Looking to move because I lost my job with Harley-Davidson down here and now all my family lives up that way in and around Burlington. I'd just as soon get closer to the military folks. Talk soon.
You can check out the Florida club info at www.bearrc.com (http://www.bearrc.com). Can't seem to add a signature here.

Hello Dino, it's always good to have new racers. Ok that's cool you have talked to Chris already, so you know something about our track. Well with being in a military town we have people come and go, but we have a decent crowd of racers that come out along with new people getting interested in racing. So we are looking forward to this season. The reason that we have been spliting our time at other tracks is because we run year around and the weather hadn't been the best these last few months. So in order to get that racing fix in the track in Rosewood has an indoor carpet track and they decided to run touring inside until the weather gets better to run outside. Now when the asphalt season starts they will be running on saturdays and we run on sundays, so that will be good for both tracks. Some of there racers support our track when we have races, so we are doing the same. We will run what ever people want to race, as long as there are at least 3 of them. But we have been running 17.5, and run what you brung mostly, but we have run 13.5, nitros, 12th scales, mini coopers, VTA, World Gt. So as long as we have 3 we will run them. So I'm looking forward to meeting you, you sound like you will be a great addition to our club. I'm on RCTECH also under the same profile name.

Lol!!! Don't worry about it man. Between me and Timmie you will be straight. Carpet is not much different maybe a few minor adjustments. To tell you the truth, I'm running the same setup that I do for asphalt, the only thing that I added on my car was the swaybars. Once you get your car setup all you have to do is worry about cleaning your tires. Don't worry about buying tires until you get there. They have a set that they are using in the GT class and they are $25 for a set of 4 premounted. You can't beat that. You will get a lot of runs out of them, some of us are running them in 17.5. They run oval on saturday, but it will be setup for touring on sunday.
