Batteries are almost all panasonic or sanyo. They are matched by various companies and sold as sets or packs. Most companies that match do a good job of it, but look at Trinity, World Class, Orion or something along those lines. As far as run time, that's going to depend on the battery's milliamps and the type of motor and the type of car and terrain. Not to mention electronics that would also affect runtime. Expect from 5 to 12 minutes of run time. If you want your batteries to work well and stay that way, condition them. Discharge them after you take them out of the car. Equalize them if they're packs you built. let them cool before charging them again. Invest in a $9 wal-mart mini-fan for at the track. Charge them with a good charger that has peak detection and not a timer. Duratrax Intellipeaks are great and so are Milleniums. Batteries require a lot more maintenance than you might think, take care of them and they'll take car of you on race day. Neglect them and you'll be the guy who dumps 3 minutes into the race. :D

You buy something like the Trinity Real Time2 Discharger, or the Integy Indi Octane30, they discharge each individual cell.
