I am new to the hobby, but am somewhat familiar with it through friends that were involved years ago. I have no plans to race, only to have for my own tinkering and enjoyment. I think i want a hpi rally. Can anyone tell me what motor and esc to get. I am on a semi-limited budget and want to build this kit myself. Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Far as esc's go, you might look at the mid-priced ones made by LRP and Novak. Very reliable and popular brands (my LRP IPC is several years old now and has never given me a problem). I suggest a machine wound mod motor for play, faster than stock for about the same price. I would also say get one that has bearings instead of bushings, just a little more money but worth it. Hope this helps.....

The Futaba ESCs are god, though they have a high motor limit, meaning you cant run the low wind Modifieds. For a motor a good stock motor or cheap modified would be a good choice. Maybe a P2K or one of the Speedgem 2s
