Hello all,

I have been looking for years for a good screw extractor kit/set of bits I can use for RC cars. Most sizes I see are just too big to be useful for the small RC screws we use.

Could anyone point out or link me to a good kit that I can use to get out atleast some of the most basic sizes we use?

thanks in advance :)

thanks for the response.

see...this is where i am not sure if i am just being confused, but aren;t those bits very big? i don't really see specs for the craftsman set anywhere beyond it being a 1/4" bit.....but they just look very big.

i mean, most of the screws we use in RC are 2.5, 3, and 4mm screws so...hmm. i wish i was able to just to go a store now and compare, lol

do these specs sound about right for the needs of the all around RC sizes we use?
5pc Multi-Fluted.
Machined Alloy Steel Screw Extractor: #1-#5
5pc Cobalt Drill Bits: 5/64", 7/64", 5/32", 1/4", 19/64"

that should give me a range of head sizes from 2mm-16mm i believe. are my bases covered, i right now have a broken screw in a crankshaft and a stripped engine mount screw in the bottom of my LSP i need to tackle ASAP. i also am thinking the screws in the linkages of my LSP are some of the softest i have seen since Traxxas!

thanks guys,
i think this will be my choice. seems to be the best bet around on paper atleast. should have me covered from 2.5mm to 16 as i mentioned and comes with the extractor and drill bits matching. hopefully it will turn out to be worth my expectation after not really seeing any good ones for our sizes.

i have always believed like the dremel this is something every major RCer MUST have! crossing my fingers that this is the case.

i have always drilled the heads off of the screws and used vise grips to get them out. I think that these extractors will work fine. I am actually thinking of getting a set for myself since my method kinda sucks anyways.

just pick up the exctractor set from Sears. It is the set that has a drill on one end, and a reverse thread screw on the other. They cost around $30. I have this set, and they get the screws out in seconds.

that is all fine and dandy for surface screws...but what about those pesky one's holding on the engine head??? those are a PITA

Use a drill bit to drill into the head just get one about the same size as the shaft, and it will snap the head off. Then use some pliers to unscrew the shaft.

The Craftsman 7 piece screw extractors were the best investment for me. It saves time.
