I understand that dirt oval racing is more popular in the midwest and east coast than it is on the west coast , and I also understand that your magazine and its sponsors are mostly located on the west coast , but you do sell your publication nationally and yet you seem to forget about us dirt oval racers by never covering any topics concerning us in your magazine . Also you can just take a glance at your track directory and quickly see how many dirt oval tracks there are across the country so obviously I know I am not alone . I just think that some set up tips , product information , and articles on some dirt oval rides would be nice . I also believe that exposure of this segment of the hobby in your magazine would just help it grow . Thanks you guys are great !

I just heard of that site myself about a month ago , it is pretty cool ! I race at the monee track in illinois thats posted on there in the mudbus class , its a real nice place to race . Roy the owner is big into 1 / 8 sprint cars and they put on one heck of a show . Thier national meet is july 27 - 30 , if your from the chicagoland area I recommend checking it out !!

Believe it or not but I actually raced dirt oval , but that was over 8 years ago . When I ran , there were many companies producing kits and hop - ups . But now there are very few companies if any producing dirt oval specific parts . The magazine alone can ' t change the popularity of a class , the manufacturers need to support the class first and we follow .
We feature a homebuilt dirt oval car once in a while . Please send us pics of your rides for consideration .

Yeah Greg ' s right some manufacturers are going to have to step up before car action can do much to help the popularity of it . But I also see why there are very few manufacturers any more have you seen the number of registered members on the dirtoval site it ' s like 130 something and there is no manufacturer on earth that would design a car for that few a number of people . Thought the cars are pretty cool like the Eagle Sprinter that was great .

This is an interesting angle coming from a magazine that covers almost exclusively off road racing and touring cars.
yes, it is a "Catch 22" in that the magazine covers what is popular, but what made touring cars popular? Certainly not the real cars, as the NATCC barely lasted 2 years in the U.S. Why? Lack of fan support. Gee, that makes the scale cars infinitely more successful than their real big brothers. You don't think the magazines and certain manufacturers had anything to do with its popularity? Think again.
Custom Works is a perfect example. How many racers out there have never heard of CW or didn't know they were still in business because there are no ads, or no event coverage for DO? Does ROAR even have rules for DO racing anymore?
Dirt oval racing is going strong in many parts of the US, no thanks to the big manufacturers who would have nothing to do with it, and the magazines that cater to their directions. Provetti has working for him one of the great dirt oval designers and drivers in James Dieter, but James spends his time now tweaking touring cars for Trinity drivers. Must not be enough money in it, huh Ernie?
Dirt oval racing will make a comeback, I am sure of this, with or without coverage from the magazines or support from Associated, Trinity, Reedy or Losi.
As the designer and owner of DirtOval.com, I hope that DO racing comes back with a fury. Wouldn't it be amusing to see RC Car Action covering the NORCCA Nationals or the Gas Sprint Nationals again and Trinity actively selling their Reflex kits, after the popularity picks up enough to become a money-making opportunity again?
Hmmm, I wonder if you guys could show us some more monster trucks jumping off of roofs or a shopping mall parking lot full of 4wd touring cars?
Bitter? Nah, we're used to being the red-headed step child.

Greg,
Doug may seem a bit bitter, but he is right. You, and other mags, have been on a touring car high ever since Tamyia brought out there first all-wheel drive cars over 8 years ago. Also I remember you guys running many articles about converting off-road cars to rally cars, now look at all the rally cars that are being manufactured. Hummm, could that be just by chance, I think now.
Many thousands of ppl read the mags and follow your lead. Not that this is all bad but wether or not, you do set treads. You have great power to change minds. I'm not trying to change your mind about what you should race but you have to realise that many of do not find "Big Air" articles that cool. Jumping breaks parts with no reason behind it, except to inhance the support of the manufacturer.
Many ppl still do race DO,and I know that ppl will become bored with touring cars and Off-road. Trends and fads come and go time and again. But one thing remains, Dirt Oval. Oval of any kind, you don't even give good coverage to the paved oval Nats anymore. You had 2 or 3 page article on it and devote 8 to 10 pages to the off-road WARM UPS. WARM UPS, it's not really even a big race. You don't even cover the carpet oval nats, you only gave it it a one-half page with virtualy no results. Doesn't Kirby Hand still race oval.
Yes it may be true that companies like Grand Motor Sports and Custom Works do not advertise, but shouldn't that tell you guys something. Your not covering THEIR products. Would YOU have a mag if nobody bought it, NO. Your, I should say the RC Media as a whole (I don't want to pick just on your Mag), does nothing for this segment of the RC community.
We are showing a lot of attitude here, and I'm sorry. But we just want you to know that we feel very left out. We all buy your very well thought out and incitefull (SP) magazine (butt kiss LOL) but we just want to see articles, tests and coverage from time to time. Though it would be nice, we don't want to see a once a year SPECIAL mag that covers DO either, that's not what we want, not everyone could see this form of racing. WE WANT OUR OVAL.
