View Full Version : Is This Web Forum Going Downhill?

It might be my imagination, but it seems that since the format of the forum was ruined, it seems like it's gone downhill. It seems like there are fewer posts, seems like there are more silly, immature posts and it just doesn't seem to have the same quality of information being discussed.

Have a lot of folks given up on it? I'm getting close to doing that, if it continues to go downhill. I thought that the new forum "layout" was just a temporary bad experiement, but it's stuck. I can't stand it.

I don't know why a commercial site would allow such a travesty in their web forum design. It's severely ill.

I don't like the new format either, but I haven't noticed any difference in the posting activity on the forums.

The pages load slower. Format is terible!

I guess money talks. You get the board for free but advertizers (sp) get what they want. I guess we will have to live with it or move on.

The pages definitely load slower, and if you watch the status bar it is because of the ads...the server hosting the advertisements is lagging.

I too have also noticed the decline in posts. It thought maybe it was the weather, but I don't think it can be ignored.

I to have noticed a decline in GOOD posts. I used to get close to 30 email notifications of postings a day, now I am lucky to get 3. The quality and subjects are not what they used to be.

Downhill? What ever do you mean? I thought the same regurgitated question .... Tmaxx, LST, MGT, or Revo x.x for christmas? by pimply faced pre pubescent teens OVER AND OVER AND OVER ad nauseum is ... great!

This forum has gone to HELL ... and all the little punk A$$ dweebs are just making it worse.

42 threads on " pictures of your trucks posed within 10 minutes of eachother" .... Revo Tmaxx Savage or ....? and "Help Im an idiot and dont know how to tune, and wont take any time to read and learn so my engine is a POS"

I only pop in to haggle with the OFNA Haters

^ ^ ^ Which is different from any other RC forum exactly how? That's pretty much a constant. Now we just have the added features of slower page loading, narrow window of actual **content**, ads we'll never click, and boxes sticking out all over the place with absolutely nothing lining up with anything else.

.... it seems like it's gone downhill.....
Absolutely, lot less going on, been coming here for years and now it's just plain annoying.

I agree with all of the comments above an will probably leave soon if the format is not improved. Its just not worth it anymore.

...also I would support the HobbyPeople advertisement if they carried Kyosho products....*hint hint*....at least the HobbyPeople near me doesnt carry kyosho..and won't even bother to call kyoshoamerica for me for a single part....

You know what though about the kyosho part. I was talking to a lHS near me a few days ago, he just opened about 2 weeks now and we where talking about what he's going to carry and what not.. I came to find out that he needs atleast $4,000 with of parts to carry Xray and Kyosho sells to dealers as the same price if we called them and ordered it ourselfs.

but back on topic. yes this site is going downhill. with the weather starting to warm up, there is always a decline in post..thats almost everwhere. My thing I find annoying is looking and finding the same questions over and over and over. There is a "Search" button and if used right does wonders.

.

From what I understand about Kyosho, is that your LHS does not have a minumum as to what they have to order. Also, I have been able to get parts cheaper when I order kyosho parts through my LHS over calling kyoshoamerica direct. Kyoshoamerica do not sell car kits but only parts, but I am not 100% sure the LHS can get the parts cheaper and pass on the savings to the customer...would seem like the right thing to do

i've really found it hard as of late to have my questions about setup and problem solving done here. pages do load slow, banners and header graphics before us.

The page opens super slow the first time I visit the site. It takes up to 20 seconds to load on a cable connection. All other pages after that take up to 10 seconds to load.
I have adapted to the smaller format, so that doesn't really matter to me. Just fix the load times.
I visit a forum with two large banners at the top and it stretches to fit my screen with over 1000 posts per minute and it loads much, much quicker than this.

I don't post on here anymore as it takes longer to load than most other R/C forums

I noticed the same thing...They haven't even posted the April paint comp, and it's 6 days into the month...if that's not a good bellweather for where this forum is headed, I don't know what is.

Dude guys...I don't like the format either but at the end of the day I still love R/C and I still really enjoy coming here to interact with other R/C folks! Load times or inconvenient layout aren't enough to deter me from participating in the hobby I love! The only way this place is going to stay great is if we all keep coming here and talking about R/C. If everyone gets fed up and leaves then of course it's gonna be a cruddy forum! But I'm not about to let that happen! :)

I agree completely with SS Pede. We can sit and complain about how bad the forum is and whatnot but if you just completely boycott it then matters will just get even worse.

For me, this is the forum with the best information and the best bunch of members I've ever seen. I do not visit any other forum nearly as much as this. The RCCA staff are great too.

As for posts decreasing, I seriously think it's just because of the weather. There is much more to do in RC in the summer than in any other season.

Well, thats just my opinion

I don't understand why they can't get someone to fix the forum so that it auto-fill's the page depending on the user's screen resolution. Its pretty basic stuff. The fact that they have left it after all these complaints tells me they don't really give a crap. I don't know why they even bothered posting that poll about "What's your screen resolution?". It's retarded to hardcode the page to a certain resolution due to the wide range of devices and screen sizes a web page can be viewed on. And to choose 800x600 is even worse. I would like an official response on whether they are going to do anything about it or not.

That thread was made by a third party (StevePond) in effort to help the rcz webmaster to at least set a default page size larger than this one. Unfortunately, it didn't have any effect as we all know.

I will never leave this place no matter how bad it gets.

The new format really detracts from the actual substance. I understand the need for a site to promote their sponsors. However, there needs to be a limit to which you switch your focus from content to ads. For me, it's enough of a detraction that I don't spend too much time perusing the forums. The eyestrain becomes a bit much.

BTW, the delay wasn't so much from the forum layout, it was waiting for the judges from last month to post. (the extra day was from forum layout :D)

MrB1973 - I believe we should cut the mods some slack. First of all, I'm pretty sure that mods are not getting paid for what they do. :D These guys do it because they love R/C cars just as much as we do. And I'm sure they also have other commitments, jobs, families, etc. I do share your concern about the forum but I personally don't intend to leave, bad format or not. I am on several sites but I still love this forum and I enjoy hanging out with the bunch at Painting and Detailing. Cheers!!! :D

I nearly made a similar post about 4 months ago (pre facelift). Without doubt the traffic has slowed down. Same with the quality of posts.

I dont visit here much lately either. One due to the new format and 2nd the the lower post count by others just not much happening. There are times the posts wont load at all for me for some reason like half the time I visit now. It loads to where the red box with "View First Unread" then blank after that, mo matter how long I wait. Wierd

Hmmm. I can't say I've noticed any change at all in posting activity, and I'm on here every day (often multiple times). Who knows. I'd just like a wider format that lines up better. But the content seems the same to me.
