Im new to this and I was wondering how hard it would be to hook up a radio control to my little brothers electric car. The ones you can sit in. I have a general idea of how it should work but when it comes to actually doing it im lost.

Heres what i think happens. (Prob way off)

When i press up on the remote it send the signal and gives power to the motor. When i press down it does the same but in reverse. When i press left and right it send the signal to the steering motor to turn forward or reverse (or left and right).

Would it be possible to take a board out of a r/c car and send the wires to the motor on the bigger car and steering?

Still use the same control?

If it isnt possible is there an easy way to do it?

Thanks alot, any suggestions would help

U mean like one of those little elec. jeeps? I thought about buying one of these cheap at a yard sale and trying to make it radio controled. That would be awesome except for the fact that they only go like 5 mph. HEy heres an idea someone could sick like 15 nitro trx 3.3 engines in there. Yeah that would be awesome. Its possible all u would need is two 1/4 scale servos. Mount one where it pushes on the pettle and the other so it turn the steering wheel.

That sounds like a very interesting project! A while back I saw a video of a real 1:1 car turned into a RC Car, but off course there were other more intricate mechanical & electronical devices used. Your project is possible, I heard a student in engineering made one for a senior design project.

I have an old beat up Jeep that im using. Its slow but speed isnt a problem for my yet. Im actually doing it for my final year project in my engineering course. I want to get it working than im going to start adding stuff to it. Would the idea taking the board out of the rc car and wiring it up to the jeep actually work? Ive been doing reasearch but I cant seem to find anything. Does anyone know where I can find information about how remote and the wiring might work.

Thanks

U don't have to do anything to the car except add 3 things.

1. u need to add a 1/4 scale steering servo in a way that it will turn the steering wheel.
2. Add a 1/4 scale servo to the floor and add a link so that it will push down the gas pettle.
3. Add a reciver and battery pack to power the servos and reciever. Use velcro for this.
4 drive. This project is fairly simple. U don;t need a esc or anything u just need the 2 servos to do the same thing a child would do while riding. It would be really funny to see one of these jeeps get a brushless system installed. LOL

what would be cooler is if you made a sleeve to connect the steering where to the shaft that actualy steers the wheels and have some kid driving it and disconnect the sleeve and drive the jeep for him/here.....lol .... that would be awesome....

Thanks alot guys, its starting to come together. How do i control these servo motors? and will the steering wheel servo be strong enough to turn the jeep if it has like 50 lbs on it? Sorry for all the questions im new to all of this RC stuff. Starting to get addicted. Keep the ideas coming.

Ive been reading about it. So you hook up the servo motors to the reciever, the reciever to a battery pack, and the reciever is controlled by the radio control. Seems simple enough. Thanks alot, i though it would be alot more difficult than that.

I think you could mount a fairly long arm (A few inches long) to the steering column under the body, from there mount a servo the the inside of the body, and attach a linkage from the servo to the arm on the steering column. That could conceal the steering system that way so it would look like a ghost was driving it. For the gas, mount a servo inside the body behind the rear floor board underneath the seat. Drill a hole in the plastic, put a linkage through it and the connect it to the side of the gas pedal. This would give the apperance of a ghost driver also, but upon further inspection most people would see the linkage.

Unless you were on slick concrete or aslphalt, I don't think the servo would be powerfull enough the turn the wheels with a kid riding shotgun. I know those tires are plastic and they powerslide great on asphalt!

Here are the servos you need...

This is a good solid beginer radio if you don't have one...

and here is a battery you would need to power these servos...

Good luck! I want to do a project like this now!
