No way, go for the ESC first. No maintinence, longer run times, and it just plain looks cooler. I bought a Explorer II for my B3, but I really yearn for reverse whenever I'm bashing around in a parking lot or in a field. Shoot for one that can handle 15+ turn motors and has reverse disable (this was your race legal and can upgrade to a mild mod later).

After an ESC, its up to you. Try the stock tires first. If they have no traction on the track, get some Pro-Lines. If they do fairly well, buy bearings first (try to get Dynamite rubber-sealed... don't go for the Duratrax metal-shieled).

After all of that, go for some batteries. Don't bother will the 3000s just yet, get 2000 or 2400 mAH stick packs (the ones by Duratrax are excellent, but the ones by Trinity are a little cheaper).

Hope this helps!

The motor should be mounted using two screws through the front on the motor (clamps the motor against the motor plate). The pinion is that little gear attached to the motor shaft. It's held on by a tiny setscrew.

Get a good ESC, duratrax streak is a good quality ESC that handles modified motors of
12+ turns, and stock motors to of course.
Novak Dually is also a good ESC with two profiles, stock and modified.
if you plan to race, get some tires, proline
holeshot in the rear and proline blade in the front. GOOD LUCK IN YOUR FIRST RACE

the reason i said tires there cheap and if you slide off the track because of junk tires it doesnt matter what esc motor or car you have 75% of the way your car is going to work depends on tires so get tire and and esc but you gotta have tires

A ESC is a must for your first upgrade you will need it to be able to lock out reverse at most race tracks and a different motor might be required since the stinger motor is a 20T. However the stock 20T motor is slower than alot of the stock motors out today so they might let you race with it in a stock class. Other than that bearings and if you havent heard the stock 8x5 bearings are no good you need to upgrade to 11x5 bearing carrier by RPM this will be about an extra $14 front and rear. As far as the tires. The ones you have will wear out and when that happens go get some pro line tires. The biggest sugestion I have for you it take what you have right now to the track. Ask what you will need to be able to race and start with that. The only other thing is to have fun.

Generally, bearings should always be the first upgrade, but an ESC is also a good choice.

A good set of sealed bearings would be my first upgrade. Then I would get an ESC. Then I would put a P2K Pro rebuildable stock motor in the truck.
Just my 2 cents.

I would go ESC First, Bearings, then a p2k pro motor. then get some good tires and then start adjusting the truck on the track.
Towerhobbies has everything you need. I would recomend buying a set About 5 or more pinion gears so you can get all the new found power to suit the track you run.

p.s. I would skip the fancy stuff like chrome wheels and maybe get a body you don't care if you bash the heck out of...

This ones pretty easy. You cant race the stock class if you do not own a Stock motor.
So if you want to race the stock class get a stocker, then worry about upgrades.

So your saying the stinger 20t is NOT a stock motor?????If it isnt than that shows how much the owner of the local track knows!!!! ;)

its not stock because it has less that 27 turns you can conciter the world worst mod motor

The Stinger is not stock but go to the track. They MIGHT let you race in the stock class with it because it is so SLOW. The P2K and most motors that everyone else is running will be faster than the stinger. But when you buy bearings dont get the 8x5's go ahead and get the RPM bearing carrier and get the 11x5 bearings. The 8x5 will only last a week or two before needing to be replaced. the cost of replacing they bearings a second time is more than the RPM bearring carrier upgrade.

Well man , the owner must be some rich dude with pocket full of cash that chose to make a track. The stinger is a modified motor, 20 turn. Even though most stock motors will blow the doors off the stinger performance wise, its still not legal to race. :D

This situation is sort of like gas cars. Only .12's are legal to race, but 95% of the tracks will let you race .15's if they came with the car. As long as it's not an official race, stock motors (the motor that came with the car, not the type) should always be allowed.

Plus, since, for the most part, only new drivers will still be using the Stingers, they should be allowed.
