sorry, but Speed Gems don't come in a 15t double. It is a 15t quad(I'm sure you meant).
I have one and I feel that it is a good combo of torque and speed. The max RPM's are 27,000 at 113 Watts. that is what one of their ads says in the October 2000 issue.

I also have that motor and on the Mod-Motor Shootout (August issue of Car Action) and the Max RPM was 31,774.

so if mods and some stock motors (gm3) have basically the same rpm's .. what makes mods so much faster???

They make more power and some mods can have over 50,000 rpm.

I read in the Touring Car issue of RCCA that the 15t Q has 27000RPMs on one of the adds for the SpeedGems2

Ok, thanks. Now is there a formula to figure that kinda stuff out, or do you just know it?

you have to test it and know it. there is no formula you have to use a dyno. If there was it would be a huge formula that would have to take into account for alot of diferent things

I've heard that the specs you see on the motors are exagerrated by the manufacturer to better market them. Keep that in mind. I would think you can use them to compare motors from the same company. e.g. If a Trinity speed gem 14turn double was rated at 29,000 rpm and the Trinity Speed gem 8 turn double was rated 35,000 then you get an idea of how much faster an 8 turn might be. But take that same Trinity speed gem 14 turn double claiming 29,000 rpm and compare that to a Brand X 8 turn motor that might give a more true rating of 20,000 rpm, you can't conclude that the Trinity 14 turn is faster than the Brand X 8 turn motor.

it's actualy the opposite! on trinity motors the specs are under rated. A 28,000 rpm motor may have 30,000 rpms.
