Anyone else have a Tamiya TL01? Was anyone else disappointed by it? Here's my list of Pros and Cons.
Pros:
-solid propeller shaft
-very rigid chassis
-managed to mount my ESC underneath the ESC
tray for super slow CG
-body (of course)
Cons:
-two piece a-arms (4, if you count the two screws) made of really cheap plastic
-very crappy wannabe shocks
-copious amounts of slop in entire suspension
-inaccessibility to diffs
-steering limiters on turn knuckles
-no shock spacers... undera full load(batt, mot, esc, etc) the car actually sinks... and stays **** at wierd angles
-bumpers... if I don't want to use them a plate should be available to hold the chassis together
-did I mention the shocks? They **** .

the tl01 is for beginners. thats the bottom line.
1. i'd put the steel shaft as good for beginners, but bad for those who want less weight..use the carbon shaft
2.its rigid becoz its a monocoque design chassis.
3.thats a common practice ..we usually mount the receiver on the esc tray and the esc below it
4. its a tamiya
5 two piece arms...its a beginner car..they make it durable..and heavy
6.friction shocks to keep cost down and to ease beginners
7.its a beginner car...(and its a tamiya..slop is inherrent cept for cars like the ta04, tb01 evo, )anyways..slop is good when a beginner takes his car bashes it against the curbs..the extra slop takes out the energy from the crash and not transfers it to the car.
8 steering limiters? i never found my tl01 having turning problems, in fact it turns as well as my ff02, ta03 tb01 etc.
9.its sbeginner car
10. bumpers are good on beginner cars..although you could buy the lightweight chassis set which gives you a frp plate to replace the rear bumper.
its a beginner car...want more, buy a better car..but it gives great fun to drive

Very good points about the TL01. The aftermarket support is kinda good. GTP California has some good hop ups and accesories for the TL01. Not to mention that they have a single piece arm for it. Like Riggy said Its a begineers car. When it has a good amount of Hop ups the car can be competitive. It wont be as fast as some cars like the TC3 FT and the TA04 and the TB01 Evo. Theres one downside to this chassis. The motor mount. You have 3 pinion gear choices. Thunder Tech has taken care of that though. They offer a adjustable motor mount for 15 dollars. Come with all the hardware needed to install it. This would make the TL01 alot better for racing. Who knows maybe a TRF TL01 will be out soon. Remember Tamiya has a long arm set coming out soon for the TL01.

I'd just like to thank you guys for giving me your straight forward opinions and not flaming me. Thanks.
I realize it's a beginner's car... so was the TA02 which was my first forray into the touring car world. It's diffs were easy to get to... four screws and the thing almost fell out. It's arms were made out of the same material as the chassis and bulkheads. It came with those perfectly fine, plastic shocks. It's major fault in most peoples minds was that coat hanger prop shaft which would bend all the time.
My point is that I think Tamiya is just cutting corners to save a few bucks here and there and myself and the beginners are on the short end of the stick. I like paying a good price but I also like to have certain standards.
Put the oil back in the shocks Tamiya!!! Coil overs are for Radio Shack!!!

there is a short hard type propshaft for the ta02 that doesnt bend.
i actually agree that it wouldnt cost tamiya much to add oil shocks to the tl01 kit...but i guess tamiya doesnt want beginners to dirty their hands and try fill up the oil shocks.
on the ta02 again...its not really a beginner's car..back in 1994-95 i think it was one of the few touring cars out there at the time..kyosho made the tf2, yokomo i think was just about to release the yr4, hpi came later with the pro in 1995 (i think) but at the time, it was tamiya or nothing for touring car....i know of lots of beginners assembling the ta02 diff and putting the thrust washers the wrong way round, not screwing it tight enuff etc. etc...hey, its part of the TA series...which now is up to the TA04 chassis.

One good point about them, I have a hack friend who gets joy by running it into any thing that is hard and usually inflicts damage on r/c cars, but his does not break http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

The point of having a Tlo1 is etheir to race in a low cost spec class or bomb around the nieghbor with long run times and not very fast but crusing speed fun and that all it's about plus it's a easy to build and maintain. Besides it's fun to detail them with after market body and rims. I'm now buliding a Tlo1 with a Hpi eclispe body i'm trying to make look like my Talon .
