By no means am I an electric expert since all I really know is that red is positive and black is negative. I went to hook up my motor last week and I plugged both leads into the negative side, and not one positive and one negative like it should be. After about 15 seconds the battery started smoking so I unplugged it as quick as I could. Tonight I soldered some new connectors onto it and got it working with my other motor but the one I used when the battery got cooked doesn't seem to work anymore. Do you think I cooked it? If so, how are those Orion SV2 motors.

Hooking up the esc or battery to a common connector on the motor seems like it would hurt the esc, battery and not the motor.

The current had to go somewhere, so the damage to motor may have been slight. Only way of knowing is to inspect it carefully even take it apart. First trying turning the armature shaft by hand, look at springs to see if they got melted or burnt through, look at brushes to see if they are discolored.

It's about the same as other modifieds, except for certain types of racing it tends have a power band that is more ideal. For bashing there may be little or no difference.

The ESC I have seems to be as rugged as they come. It is an LRP F1 Pro Reverse that I bought 2 years ago. I have put this thing through absolute hell. Things such as water, short circuiting, large crashes, extreme heat, lots of reverse running, and more that would kill a normal ESC like my Novak XRS (which died the second time I ran it) has not done much to this one. Thanks for the help.
